Jolla Phone Pre-order campaign has started

Jolla said the project is profitable at about 7000 units so this is a big milestone.

Was it before the ram prices increased ?

That is if you assume Jolla will use DDR5/DDR5X ram. They just say 12gb of RAM so It could very well be something older, slower and not affected by the price increase.

As far as I remember they will reveal everything in a couple of months before they ask for the full payment.
So let’s hope that they offer enough to convince people to actually commit and not ask for a refund!

I really hope that they don’t lower the specs to stay on price target, especially for pre-orders. Yes, it’s nice to get the device cheaper as a pre-order bonus, but I would be willing to pay the full price to avoid a switch to older components as planned just to keep the low.

I agree. But for sfos I do not expect or believe that faster ram or UFS storage as an example would make a huge difference.
I’m mostly concerned with the SOC for longevity regarding Android apps.
And from the software side of things, the Android 13 level in AAS while the phone will ship when Android 17 will be out.

What we know for now:

It would be amazing to jump to for example to android 15. But might be a little bit push for the launch. Let’s hope that some upgrade on that front comes this year

Hi,

I had a quick look around the Announcements forum and the recent threads and this thread, and I’m not seeing updates about how and when manufacturing and final payments are going to go now that the MOQs have been met. Any news on that front?

Updates are always nice - but if the original estimates for those activities have not changed, it’s not like they would say a lot. What about the original information do you find insufficient? It has only been three normal working days for most people this year anyway.

Bah, I somehow completely missed it in the FAQs. Found it now and all good.

Exactly. We know what “they are shooting for” and we will get the finalized specs before the full payment

With all information that’s currently known one can conclude that’s it’s an MediaTek Dimensity from the 7xxx series.
It’s specified as wifi 6 maybe it could be wifi 6E as well, but if it’s wifi 6 and not 6E then 7100 is the one that fits the known specifications.

But i’m not sure all the known spec are final.

Hopefully there will be a better one.

Quick question… Does the Dimensity 7100 have AI at all?

What do you mean with “AI”? An integrated NPU?

NPU is exactly what I mean. Does the 7100 have one?

It’s likely to be LPDDR5 because the all the manufacturers are ramping down LPDDR4 lines, which also means that LPDDR4 will not be cheaper than LPDDR5.

…and does Long Range Bluetooth suggest connections phone-to-phone over kilometres?

Long range bluetooth is used to keep the flow of your personal data back to to OS servers - Google 16 times per second Apple 6 times per second - regardless of web connection by using every phone as a mesh repeater That’s how Airtag, find my phone etc , work .An iphone keeps transmitting for around nine months after the battery is shown as flat. Amazon have their own version for their devices. Sailfish OS does not collect personal data. The system was enabled by the Covid app system keeping track of infected contacts

They’ve mentioned unpublished SoC, this could be Dimensity 7400
