We are expecting great things to come. Can I have my stuff shipped to Krasnowfrietkowja Region and can you wrap it as a gift? May I write you daily from now on about delivery and the need to make wooden cases, too?
So what does this have to do with what you wrote?
I won’t teach you. You are the engineer.
You are talking nonsense. These items are made by subcontractors, the same who make them for those selling on AliExpress. Starting from 1,000 pieces, the cost is almost flat. This means they cost tens of cents to Jolla. Don’t teach about things you don’t know, my company sources subassemblies and I know the procedure.
I did not write a word on production. I asked about customer support.
Don’t you need injection molding with hardened aluminium tooling for around 10k units? I thought the tooling alone costs 5-10k EUR for a moderately complex part like that at a respectable Chinese producer?
Even if it cost 10k, which is very much an upper bound, that would be 1€ per piece. Material will be less than 1€. NRE is negligible. We’re talking at most 2€ per piece. I was expecting 10 to 15€ at most.
And still 10 to 50 times more just for tooling than you were saying the production costs are.
You say that… yet – from some cursory glancing – known brands seem to be selling at similar prices? OnePlus prices their cases at about 20-25 EUR, and their glass at ~20 EUR. Fairphone comes in at ~40EUR for cases and ~30EUR for glass. Samsung prices their cases at ~70EUR (wtf)
And when the hell have you last seen a phone company include a case for free?? Hell, you’d be lucky to even get a cable or charger bundled with your phone nowadays. 50EUR is kinda steep, sure, but it is absolutely not something unusual – first-party accessories are always kinda steep.
Xiaomi includes a free case with every phone shipped.
That’s surprisingly generous, then – definite brownie points for Mi, I haven’t heard of a company doing that since the early smartphone days. Probably the only smartphone company I’ve heard of in the modern day that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg for the “official” accessories.
Let’s make numbers speak. A Fairphone 5/6 case costs 2,50€ on Aliexpress. Fairphone numbers are not hugely bigger than Jolla.
Yeah, unofficial ones, direct from the factory. You’re comparing apples and oranges, though.
Unihertz also offered a case with the Titan 2 last year.
Unihertz offers a free case but doesn’t offer support for their devices.
I’d take the 6-8 years of actual support over a free basic case ![]()
They actually updated the Titan 2 to Android 16 in february and announced in march support up to Android 19 and security updates up to 2030.
Yes I’ve seen a lot of promises when clicks announced they would make a phone so I’ll believe it when I see it.
But anyway, I would never expect that we will have J2 announcements and weather app updates between others but the whole thread would be devoted to a 30€ case.
Odd times!
Nothing Phone hast a Case included
I think the most logical thing would be to buy a J2 AND a Nothing Phone, take the case included with the Nothing Phone and put it on J2 and throw away the Nothing Phone which is useless now, as it has got no case anymore.
That was not the question. It was asked if there are any Brands which include a case. I simply answered the question.
And no worries I ordered the jolla with a case.
Sorry, you are right, mixed up posts.
But…
Your Nothing phone won’t fit. ![]()
