Jolla Phone (2026) Batch 1: Broken USB port, volume button issues and dust under the screen

My point, that you missed, is that even if you have a working phone with a defect that prevents you from using it, it doesn’t matter if it’s powering up or not.

Anyway, if Jolla somehow prioritizes defects with a specific severity scale they defined, maybe you will get lucky and get your replacement sooner.
If not, I’m sure this is not your first smartphone or hopefully you didn’t throw away your Android/iPhone when you received j2.

what are you talking about? how can disassembly void the warranty? that’s not legal anywhere in the EU. (it is also not legal in the US, or honestly anywhere that i know of)

if you BREAK the phone while disassembling due to carelessness or incompetency, the part that you broke can be denied under warranty…unless it was already defective and under warranty.

jolla could face a pretty nasty legal battle if they wanted to fight you on this…but of course they would never do that.

as a professional repair technician, you must know this…and also you must know how easy it is to get to this sub board. an amateur (hi!) can do it in under 5 min, with minimal risk of damaging anything. you don’t even need a heat gun. a screw driver (#0 phillips) and a credit card or spudger will do it.

Well, their warranty policy says:

This Limited Warranty is void if the Product has been opened, modified or repaired by anyone other than a Jolla authorised service provider

virtually all companies include that wording, despite that the fact that it is illegal to include it, and it is not enforceable in the EU (or the US). you have a right to repair, without warranty voiding, for up to 2 years. (again, if you break it while repairing it, they dont have to cover what you broke, as long as they can prove you broke it, but they still have to cover all other warranty claims)

Dude, are you sure about that? I saw something about this somewhere before, and I actually just remembered it. When they were talking about getting the dust in the selfie camera fixed, there was a line saying that if you tried to open it up and clean or fix it yourself, your warranty would be voided. And I remember that statement coming from Jolla themselves.

Here is their statement (not saying anything about warranty voiding, though):

Actually, the fact that they already say in the last sentence that you have a 2-year warranty makes that statement a bit contradictory in the context of this discussion. And yes, this is the report I was referring to; I explained it a bit more exaggeratedly than it actually was.

But I’ll say this: if I open up an Apple phone or even the laptop in front of me, the warranty is already voided anyway. So why would Jolla take such a high-level risk? Personally, if I were in their position, I would say that the warranty is void if any part of the device other than the battery cover is opened.

I understand their statement about warranty as: “this dust issue is a hardware defect covered by our 2-year warranty; no need to try by yourself”.

They don’t say it voids the warranty if you try, only that they don’t recommend doing it yourself, I presume because you could damage your own phone, while Jolla will repair it professionally so you don’t have to worry about the quality.

they did not say that or anything even remotely like it. they said the camera lens defect is covered by your warranty and promised to fix it.

replacing a screen is difficult and will likely result in many broken screens, which they will then not be obligated to replace/fix (but will look bad in not doing so). this is likely why they advise (advise only!) not repairing it yourself.

nope. no it isnt. in the EU, you are covered for 2 years, and it is illegal to void a warranty because of an unrelated DIY repair. (again, if you BREAK something, that isn’t covered by warranty regardless of how you broke it).
in the US, Magnuson-Moss offers similar protection, though warranties remain optional here. you can sell things as-is, but if you provide a warranty, it cannot be voided by opening the device.

warranty-void-if-removed is always a lie in the US and EU. apple can only refuse to repair your device if they prove that you opening the device is what damaged it. of course, they can refuse to repair it anyway and wait for you to sue them.

What I’m going to say is this: I learned this for the first time after such a long time, and yes, it really is true. Apple technicians were also telling us that if we opened the device, the warranty would be immediately canceled. Because of this, we genuinely avoided taking our devices to phone repair shops we knew, just so the warranty would not become invalid, and we always had them repaired at Apple service centers. I paid a huge amount of money because of this. We were kind of fools, I guess. =/

I am also having trouble connecting to the network. It recognizes the DNA network, and the signal is excellent. I haven’t made a single minute of calls on my new phone yet. I’ve already messaged Jolla twice but haven’t received a reply. I’ve tried everything to fix the problem, but nothing helps. How can I send my phone in for warranty repair? There are 22 months of warranty remaining.

how did you try to contact Jolla? zendesk, email or (forum) DM? …fastest nowdays is the DM way

I guess opening a topic if not existing is the best way to solve your issue.

Interesting conspiracy theory. How about a reality check?

If you want visibility, put all the reports of a problem and the ensuing discussion in a single thread. The thread will bubble up to the top of the forum with every new report. When a hundred people have the same problem, the thread will bubble up at least a hundred times. In contrast, each of a hundred separate threads will only get a brief flash of visibility before sinking to their death in the bottom sediment of the forum.

If you want a problem fixed, put all the reports of it and the ensuing discussion in a single thread. Keeping the details in one place makes it a lot easier to understand every the aspect and corner case of a problem. It also makes it easier to gather feedback on attempted fixes.

I’ve sent an email to shop@jolla.com and DM’ed Jolla over here directly as well. Zendesk didn’t even have Jolla Phone (2026) as a selectable phone

No, this is not a theory, it is a fact. People are trying to cover it up, just like I explained with the table example. Thank you.

Volume button
The volume-up button only responds when I press it extremely hard, to the point that my finger becomes sore. This makes it difficult and uncomfortable to use normally

i have to use twice more force than i can feel clack when button is pushed. Somehow until now i was confused if it is some kind of protection to unwanted push, so i repeated pushing until it reacted, now i am sure that it is about the force. Not comfortable indeed
volume up is bit worse than down. Anyway i think that expected behavior is that button is pressed when you feel the clack of microswitch

FWIW, i am also having issues with charging using one specific USB cable, which seems to sit unusually loose on the JP, so it looses contact at some angles, but fine on all my other devices. The JP2 seems to charge fine using other cables.

What are you talking about man? This is a public forum, anyone can see all the complaining going on about the JP2026. Pretty much every new topic about the phone has people complaining about something. If they’re trying to cover anything up, they’re certainly not doing a very good job of it.

What attah is saying is just common forum etiquette. A topic should cover a single topic. Say the USB issue gets fixed but the others don’t, so the topic stays unsolved. Now someone searching the forum for this issue might not check this topic because you’d think there is no solution yet.

And what if eventually all 3 issues are fixed, which reply will be the solution then? Someone searching the forum will only easily be able to find one, for the others they’d have to go searching through irrelevant comments.

Besides, as far as I’m aware, attah does not work for Jolla. Why would they even care about covering anything up at all?
