I don’t know how often Jolla has organised these kind of community meetings but they definitely should hold these at least twice a year. As they many times stated that they are thankful of this community and I think these kind of events are one of the best way to include people from the community. I think many things that have been wondered in the forum where answered during the meeting. Also as they will be opening up the source codes I believe it would be highly beneficial.

If Jolla host second late this year or early next year, I am sure they would know better how to set up the live stream  Maybe even outside big tech platforms!

YT is critical, but acceptable. But Zoom is an absolutely no-go. Who had this idea? Hey, @Jolla , how are you? What’s the matter? Unbelievable!

It was clearly a fallback option that was done on the fly at the meetup, after it was already delayed considerably and they were trying to be respectful of everyone’s time (both in person and those eagerly waiting virtually). I would be less judgemental and more appreciative that they did something for those attending virtually rather than just recording it locally and uploading later (which would mean no Q&A from virtual participants). Nobody in their right mind is going to say in that situation “oh you know what I’m going to do? I’m going to try a tool I’m not familiar with and potentially create more problems and might not even work for our setup!”

Be pragmatic, not ideological.

Thanks for your effort!

Oh, I thought I’m pragmatic, not opportunistic. Just Zoom as fallback while there are a lot of other platforms meanwhile. I’m not angry but little bit puzzled.

And, it’s not so important. I’m happily looking forward to watch the recording.

Thank you Jolla for hosting such event right in the heart of Finland!

It was good to hear, that the open sourcing of some of the components and apps has gotten an approval from the board members. Developing solid default apps is really important and hopefully this plan is one step forward in this regard.

Since there were some technical issues at the beginning, we got some more time to chatter with other community members. Thanks to all the nice people I had a chance to talk with!

Oh, and another thank you for this awesome t-shirt! :blue_heart:

Hopefully, but seeing how Mind2 news are still locked in discord and we only get occasional leaks (like Jolla Mind2 progress - #51 by tfinn), we’ll see (at this point even X is better as you can access content without an account)

And what great fun reading pointless snarky remarks about it.

They are not that locked in there. The new Version release Notes are all on a public GitHub repo also all the Official Documentation is there. (Even if there is not much. The only thing that is happening in the Discord at the moment, is solving Issues and support by other Users / Staff. Also some announcements but nothing that is noteworthy at the moment)

Not really, if it worked in the end and was a one off, cool, I mean I get them going initially with discord, it’s where all the ai/crypto zoomerbros already hang out so it made sense, but by now it seems like pointless lock-in, zero searchability/discoverability, the cool-kids club but the cool kids give no shits about what most of sfos community does care about, questionable choice from start that never got addressed, all this talk about community but privacy issues raised by community ignored in the end. Hopefully jolla learns from this experience and tests either jitsi or nextcloud talk as both options allow guests to join in with 0 requirements like email etc, whether those can support hundreds of video feeds, not sure (if you need help with setting a high performance backend for talk ping me), but few dozen should be easy and privacy friendly and foss friendly too, so yeah, we’ll see where the currents take us

You can access both direct links to posts and can view profiles, but not the conversations/comments (also profiles seem to have random tweet order, but most popular tweets and selection of most recent ones are still there), it’s shitty but still way better than discord (edit: and don’t even get me started on trying to push the privacy angle while requiring discord account, the dissonance is through the roof, like I said I get the initial reasons, but by now claiming you do anything privacy adjacent and expecting ppl to have discord account in order to participate ffs)

In case people enjoy text summaries instead of watching videos dirty copy paste from meeting:

<rainemak> Super brief recap
16:35:14 <rainemak> - Antti discussed about route to Mind2 Beta & showed a demo
16:35:14 <rainemak> - A Sailfish mobile app will be created as an activity together with the community
16:35:14 <rainemak> - Open sourcing plan first steps - approval from the board
16:35:48 <rainemak> That Sailfish mobile app would be an app to access Mind2
16:36:55 <flypig> This is a great recap; thank you rainemak!
16:37:15 <rainemak> flypig, I guess this covers also this topic then
16:37:19 <flypig> I feel the same way Nico :)
16:37:28 <CLMA31[m]> One thing I don't remember hearing yesterday, will there also be app for Android/IOS? I assume that first app will be native SFOS

16:37:35 <flypig> rainemak, it does, thank you.
16:38:11 <nephros> I like the "accounts" thing on the Open-sourcing components list. Hopefully Nextcloud can be extended, and other libsocial things added.
16:38:15 <rainemak> Yeah, there's an electron based mobile app coming for multiple platforms
16:38:28 <nephros> I also have some ideas about Gallery.
16:38:31 <flypig> nephros, which list is that?
16:38:44 <nephros> flypig: it's in the presentation.
16:38:55 <flypig> Thanks nephros... I'll await the video!
16:38:59 <rainemak> let me sum up that as well

Well i would go for owncast and obs, plus a jitsi for remote speakers.

When you plan something like that you want to test it on your chosen location/network, have a dedicated network for all your streaming so the wifi clients arriving on site will not disturb or eat your whole uplink. You start well before the actual time and have a backup streaming solution ready to go, or directly two parrallel streams.
The 20min before start you stream some nice test picture+sound maybe with a countdown. That also allows people to tune in early to avoid spikes.

Yeah, configuring stuff like fallback from basic p2p webrtc that will eat your bandwitdth with 20 participants is not a 5 min fix and requires some planning, which is why I hope the zoom thing was just a fallback and not a direction (but again discord thing with mind2 ended up being permanent so far, so who knows)

I would (again) suggest Peertube, at least as a backup. Jolla already has presence on Mastodon so adding Peertube (which is part of the Fediverse too) would be a small additional step.

They even have a guide on how to combine it with a Jitsi conference.

Like @Seven.of.nine already said, I’m puzzled on the recurring use of (US-based) big tech software by Jolla. Earlier their communiques were made using Word. This presentation was PowerPoint. They (tried to) stream on youtube, and when that didn’t work, switched to Zoom.

All very pragmatic, but this community clearly has some ideals, which again and again seem to be not understood by Jolla.

They seem to be a bit surprised on the question on official support for the Fairphones. Instead, they aimed for mid-range devices to keep costs down. Huh. while of course plenty of people do not have or wish to plunk down €800 or so for a phone, again, here I get the feeling that Jolla doesn’t really get their customers. (Talking about regular consumers, not their business customers, which as told are by far the most important sources of income)

Thanks for the link!
I was ready to listen during the initial problems, then I had to move and listened to the stream as I could, without earpods, so I lost something here and there.

Newcomer here, waiting for my Jolla C2… saluting the community from Italy

Will the open source tree (git.sailfishos.org?) accept additions of apps to be integrated into the user experience?

As an example… Could a GNSS navigation app be added?
