Hence why I gave you a heart
Completely inside a building is a problem when you don’t get any signal, sure. That wasn’t the point. But standing at a window gives you satellites in gpsinfo, but especially in my first try it felt longer to get a number of satellites than on 10 III.
Please be aware that all this is my first impression from the first hour of C2 usage, but compared to the 10 III the Sony is the better device.
Nevertheless I will try Sevens GPS tweaks soon…
Thanks for the feedback. I did the easier thing and sent the device back!
The Sony was great, the Nokia N9 was out of this world.
This is the GPS tweak:
File is: /vendor/etc/gps.conf
As devel-su, make backup: cp /vendor/etc/gps.conf /vendor/etc/gps.conf.bak
While Location is turned off, edit the file: vi /vendor/etc/gps.conf
In line 26, change NTP_SERVER = time.google.com
to NTP_SERVER = ptbtime1.ptb.de
In line 70, change NMEA_PROVIDER=0
to NMEA_PROVIDER=1
Save and exit editor, start Location in Settings, launch GPSInfo and watch the result. Be sure to have good reception conditions.
Maybe it took longer because the phone didn’t have up to date ephemeris and almanac stored before hand, and the phone had to wait to receive those from the satellites?
Strange. I don’t have that file.
For a test GPSInfo did get a lock but I haven’t use navigation yet.
Any ETA on gps improvements? I hoped to get it working out of the box but it is not the case for my newly received C2…
IIRC, depending on the phone model, it can be /etc/gps.conf
(which is sometimes a symbolic link to /vendor/etc/gps.conf
.)
On my C2 no file there either.
And nothing like /etc/gps.conf
?
And
find -type f -name “*gps.conf*”
does not give anything?
[defaultuser@JollaC2 ~]$ devel-su find / -type f -name “*gps.conf*”
Password:
[defaultuser@JollaC2 ~]$
Unfortunately I don’t have a C2, all my experiments I did on a good old Xperia 10. It seems like that C2 + SFOS 5.x there are maybe significant changes in OS structure? Can this be ?
Yes, sorry. Forgot the /
Too early in the morning
Can you tell if making video calls is possible? This doesn’t work on my XA2 plus nor on the 10 III, but it works on Volla phone with the Wire app.
What about GPS and satnav?
I too noticed the grainy structure of the C2 screen. That wasn’t decisive for me. The build of the device and the sound make that it cannot be the daily driver I had hoped it to be.
I guess it’s now
/etc/location/location.conf
Indeed there is. All 19 lines of it.
A quick reply about video calling…
Android Telegram taken from Aurira, yes. Looks really quite nice too. Full screen, nice buttons. Looks smart.
Fernscriber, native SFOS , not that I can see.
Other things, like location etc, not tried yet; still to decide on a map app’.
Can you say where to do this ? I’ve had a good poke around but don’t see anything.
