Jolla C2 and EE UK, no networks found

I finally buckled under and splashed on a Jolla C2, which is both much larger and more expensive than I’d like. But I thought hey, I’ve had enough of all the flakiness with my XA2, particularly the poor reliability of the connection, which always seems to drop out immediately when I want to use my phone. A brand new phone with faster innards, better screen, etc, will surely give me a much better experience. Or so I thought. Try as I might I cannot get the C2 to connect to my operator (EE UK), and trying to select network manually presents me with an empty list (“Oops, no networks found”). Rebooting the phone to see if that helps sends me into the initial set-up procedure again, which of course fails on the “encrypting user data” step since I’ve already been through it once. Disappointed? You bet!

I also cannot activate flight mode; it gets stuck on “On” and never completes the disconnect (no airplane icon in the top bar. My SIM card is listed as “unknown” and does not connect to EE, nor can I see any other networks when trying to choose manually.

Attempting a factory reset - though that’s how the phone was delivered to me so not expecting any change.

After the factory reset and a third reboot, during the set-up procedure the SIM card was now correctly identified as “EE”, but it gets stuck on “Connecting” with a spinner.

OMG, why would you ever buy that piece of shit?!
The forum is full of horrible issues with that so-called “phone”.

I would rather save money for an additional year or two just to get the additional money needed to buy the new Jolla phone instead.

Return that fugly piece of crap, wait for the posts from people who bought the Jolla phone, and see if it is worth the money.
The C2 is DEFINITELY NOT worth the money.

EDIT:
Not so sure anymore about saving for the Jolla phone: Jolla Phone 2026 - batch 1 - Dust building up between front camera and screen glass

Got it working now. Not sure what I did!
