to counter the negativity – I’ve been meaning to thank you for updating MicroTube
it’s hands-down the prettiest youtube client I’d used, to the point where - while it was broken - I decided I’d rather just stop using youtube on mobile than install NewPipe ![]()
Do you mean ApppSupport’s NewPipe? Personally, I eagerly waiting for a native NewPipe app.
So far I must use ApppSupport’s NewPipe, the one that behaves friendly for me.
Wouldn’t hurt to have some respect for the developers… He is using a lot of his free time to offer people native YouTube client. If you have problem Michael helps, but “bug report” was just basically saying bad app, no thanking from version update and that you prefer android app over his. So with this in mind, would you expect someone to be super polite, like this is some company customer service? If you have a bug, report it like a bug. What is not working, what did you exactly do to cause problem, take the logs and possible error codes etc. And remember in these cases you are the one that needs to behave well, not the person who uses his little freetime trying to improve everyone’s native experience inside SailfishOS
I still have the notification “No compatible video format available” on my C2 after updating. It is just a pity because it is such a cool app. Thanks to the develepper for his work for so far.
might be just that specific video, also you can try editing .config/microtube/microtube.conf and removing poToken and poTokenTimer
Here you go: GitHub - Michal-Szczepaniak/microtube: This app is an youtube client for SailfishOS
I am positive that such a passionate user such as yourself is able to redirect that passion into something productive like contributing actionable feature requests and issue reports? Or better yet, following the Sailfish OS documentation, getting your hands dirty, and contribute code to make the features you want more approachable?
The only person that has no respect is the developer. There is any comment and no reason to call someone “asshole”.
While I agree that you being called an asshole was a bit much, it doesn’t change the reality that yes, you were being disrespectful. You are not owed anything. This is free (both as in libre and as in cost) software. You are not a customer. You did not purchase a service. You did not purchase a product. Not even donations obligate (most) developers to be dictated to on how a project shall evolve and be iterated on. Sponsors of projects / software usually do so because they recognize it is vastly cheaper to financially contribute in that manner than to add another head to their payroll.
You provided your feedback earlier related to playback speed as an option. It was acknowledged. And guess what? There isn’t even an obligation to acknowledge you. That is the reality of using software where you are not a customer. Even if you were, most modern software where you’d want direct support has supplemental SLAs. Otherwise tough luck, buttercup.
The focus of the update was clearly on ensuring the primary usecase of the app (video consumption) continued to function as expected. Anything more than that is extra. You clearly know that, you’ve been on the thread and you can see what everyone else has posted. You went out of your way to make a comment you know full well wasn’t productive or helpful. I am not at all surprised you got the reception you did.
It really isn’t difficult, just check the attitude at the door man. All you had to do was say something simple like “Hey, thanks for the update, great to have this native app working again. Anything I can do to help get that playback speed setting added?” and that’d probably have yielded you much better result (or at least, a good dialogue).
Oh no, another hallucinating kid that tries to teach anybody on the internet. Where do saw anything in that topic to prove your statement? I’m to old to expect anything from anybody and there is no such thing in this topic. There is nothing but status informations.
Everything was working fine earlier today, but now I opened the app and got this — even though I didn’t touch anything ![]()
Sarcasm mode ON: PEBKAC IWFM. Very unfriendly but it works for me.
Update: everything’s working again like before. No idea what that error was. I noticed the issue shows up when I launch the AllRadio app ![]()
I already explained it like 10 times before.
You’re watching youtube without being logged in.
After some videos youtube will be like “yo, log in if you wanna watch”
and then you get error
And then after some time they lift the ban
Thank you very much! I followed your instructions, and now everything is synced with my Google account.![]()
Hello. I finally managed to log in to my Youtube account, but faced no format errors and can’t play any videos.
you managed to do that right as youtube broke microtube so…
So… I’m considering dropping microtube. Youtube has introduced it’s own proprietary format of streaming called SABR (Server ABR) and up until now, it was still possible to use old way of streaming (separate video and audio) but no more. That’s why it stopped working. And I’ve been aware of SABR for some time now, but I put off implementing it as much as I can. Problem with implementing it is that, I basically would have to write my own gstreamer plugin that would parse the data and feed it to gstreamer, which is not impossible but sure as hell it’s time consuming.
Problem is that I don’t look forward to it. Implementing it does not interest me. I, in fact, don’t even use microtube so why would I do that? I was getting tired of youtube constantly making changes so me having to update js library already but this is on whole another level. There are already SABR implementations but those are done in Javascript and that won’t work. Honestly I’m too jaded from all the youtube bullshit. Given that I don’t even use microtube, there’s no incentive for me to spend 1-3 months implementing SABR just so that i can continue not to use microtube.
So yeah, don’t expect fix any time soon… or most probably ever. People don’t like to use sailfishos anyway they’ll just install android app, because they love to use android on sailfishos so like who cares. Or they’ll open browser and enjoy ads and sponsors.
Hi there, I completely understand your point and yes, I also use an android app, though not the official one, but NewPipe.
Let’s hope that someone is ready and motivated to write the said plug-in. ![]()
Nonetheless you did an great job. Kudos for that!

Thanks for your fight during the years.
