Is it worth upgrading from Xperia 10 III to 10 V?

It doesn’t seem to be much better except for cameras (which, ironically, is the thing that doesn’t work on SFOS).

I’m currently back to Android because the echo cancellation bug was too much for me, but thinking of going back to SFOS sometime this year and was wondering whether I should get back to my 10 III (if the bug is indeed gone by flashing over Android 13) or start looking at the 10 V.

There are multiple albeit minor differences.

The V’s package altogether is different, the screen-to-body ratio is higher so you have a .1" bigger screen in an equally big body, and weighing 10 grams less.
As a, for me, stronger counterpoint: you’ll even smaller bezels, and my monkey fingers will make far more accidental touches.

The differences between the two Snapdragon SOC’s is again minor:

  • Has a smaller size transistor (6 versus 8 nm)
  • Shows better (up to 16%) AnTuTu 10 score – 442K vs 382K
  • 10% higher CPU clock speed (2200 vs 2000 MHz)
  • Supports 14% higher memory bandwidth (17 against 14.9 GB/s
  • Slightly higher battery life

Then there are some camera differences as you’ve mentioned, which will eventually shine with the camera API 2.0 that’s being talked about.

Another thing you might like, if you’re like me and you like rocking your phones speakers in the bathroom whilst taking a shower, is that the V will use stereo speakers whereas the III’s output is mono.

Interestingly the USB port on the III seems to be superior to the V, having USB 3.1 and DisplayPort vs. USB 2.0 and no DisplayPort… not sure if that’s an error in the specs.

Besides the more efficient SOC the battery on the V is also increased from 4500 to 5000mAh, so you can expect a better battery life on the V

The elephant in the room however, and one major improvement especially for SFOS is that the V has a model with 8GB of RAM, the XQ-DC72, which is confirmed to be (or become) SFOS compatible.

edit: One thing I’d like to add is that for me, the III’s experience has been a rocky road and didn’t quite give me the SFOS experience I was spoiled with from the Fairphone 2, in that regard (so far) the V is looking a lot better.
