How to install sailfish OS on an iPhone 11 pro max? I have seen it in a shop. I want to create a device by myself. How to do that?
Umm, you really haven’t seen it on an iPhone as that would and could never happen…
Simple really, just change the whole paradigm of Apple, learn how to program and voila! It’s guaranteed
Is this another troll?
SailfishOS doesn’t run on iPhones (unfortunately). It only runs on supported Sony Xperia phones (see here), the official Jolla C2 (see here) and some community ported phones you can see here.
Do you really have seen Sailfish on an iPhone in a shop? How do you know it is Sailfish? Can you post a picture? If this is true, I would be really interested
Smells like spam and has been treated accordingly.
Isn’t that a bit rude, immediately flagging the message of a new user?
Maybe he was just a person with very less knowledge of SailfishOS and/or computers?
no. not if its basic troll/spam
Sure, I understand that completely. But how can you be so sure that he is trolling and not just a person who has zero knowledge of Sailfish and Linux?
That’s the question I’m asking. What if he is just curious about something he saw in a shop and he thinks (which I totally admit sounds like bullshit) there is SailfishOS running on an iPhone?
I am rude, so that’s how it comes across.
Having spent the last 8 years removing spammers from Openrepos, you start to get an idea of who is genuine and who is not, same for the original Jolla forum (TJC) where spammers were posting pretty much everyday.
IF the OP is genuine, he/she is at liberty to come back and tell us that they are not a spammer and that they were asking a genuine question, just as you and I are also at liberty to mark a question as spam or not, after all, this is a public forum.
Largely, we all know full well, you cannot install anything other than iOS on any given Apple iPhone at least not without jailbreaking. I’m not even sure jailbreaking is even a thing on iOS these days, maybe it is, I’ve never used iOS, I can’t stand the brand or their ethics.
More to the point, if the OP is “…someone who has zero knowledge of Sailfish and Linux” how do you think they are going to install SailfishOS on an alternate device, as they have suggested they would “like to make their own device”.
Feel free to contact admin and argue that you think I am being unfair, also, bear in mind, that others have also marked it as spam, not just me, the only difference is, I’ve openly stated I’ve marked it as spam because I think it is.
Oh. Then I’m sorry for questioning your expertise. I just thought I don’t want to scare people away from this forum. But maybe I’m wrong. Sorry for this discussion then
P.S. While I totally agree to that, you may find it interesting that actually someone ran PostmarketOS on an iPhone 7: Apple iPhone 7/7+ (apple-iphone7) - postmarketOS Wiki
No worries, I don’t think that you are unfair. You clearly stated your reasons which are understandable so everything is fine
I’m sorry that you thought I would argue against you specifically. I just discussed this in general here, I have nothing against you. Sorry if it sounded this way
I wish I could see the original post but it got flagged (yes, still, even though it is maybe a troll). I thought there was an ignore button but it seems to be gone now.
Edit: OK, if you click on their profile and look at activity you can see it.
“How to install sailfish OS on an iPhone 11 pro max? I have seen it in a shop. I want to create a device by myself. How to do that?”
Also they literally:
- created account
- posted this thread
- left
tell me its not a spam
Strange people with strange hobbies around these days…
I always wonder how they cultivate these hobbies beside tge real life…
Just strange from my perspective
Ah actually there is an iphone 11 pr max on the jolla-devices shop. I dont know how legit they are but they offer those pre flashed devices… Aaand an iphone with IOS.
So the commenter might not have been a troll.
yes the shop also offers non-sailfish phones
So assuming its no troll:
Sfos on iphone is currently not available
Actually, while it would be hard, it may be possible to port SailfishOS on an iPhone X and older devices. They have a powerful hardware exploit checkm8, which allowed to run android and the linux kernel on some devices. IIRC someone even ported postmarketos on an iphone.
Yeah, that’s what I linked to earlier: Apple iPhone 7/7+ (apple-iphone7) - postmarketOS Wiki
I know someone who bought from there with no issues
