I broke my Xperia 10 III

Dear all,

I’m so clumsy I broke my Xperia 10 III yesterday, it fell yesterday from my desk, flat on the screen (without protection) :cold_sweat: When I picked it up, the phone was still on but unresponsive, without any connection. At first I thought the shock had displaced the SIM card, so I tried to shut it down to remove it. But it appears the screen / touchscreen is broken and I can’t unlock my phone after a reboot. The phone is also rebooting on its own now. I left it on all night just to drain the battery.

Do you think it can be repaired ? If not, is there a way to somehow get the data inside ? I made several backups on the SD card, I’ll check this morning what’s inside on my computer. I hope to at least be able to retrieve my contact list.

I learnt my lesson though, a protective case is not enough, one has to have a protective screen too…

Many thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Samuel

Bummer. :frowning:

You can try this.

About the screen, some people have hat luck with attaching an USB-C mouse and keyboard and entering lock code that way.

These may help getting contacts messages off the device.

The built-in backup function also saves these so if you have a backup, look in there.

If not maybe you can trigger creating one on your SD card using USB mouse and kbd.

Replace the screen! A new screen costs 20 Euro, then you have your phone back. Or go to a mobile shop. this is a normal process, you’re not the only one with this problem.

Dear @nephros and @Seven.of.nine ,

Many thanks for your replies, really appreciated.

I eventually went to a mobile shop and got the phone repaired in just two days  I consider myself lucky, I will be much more cautious about my stuff in the future.

Best regards,

Samuel

Good for you! My 10 III requires a similar repair, so I would be curious to know, how much it cost you. I already have a 10 V, but it would be nice to have a functioning 10 III as well.

where do you find screens this cheap?

At my computer dealer here on La Palma island. I asked him for new screen and he had a look at his suppliers. After a day he offered me new screen abt 20 Euro, delivery time 4-6 weeks. I said OK, and after 6 weeks he gave me complete repair kits that contains the touchscreen, the rear plastic housing and some partly unusable screwdrivers. Changing screen went without any problems using a hairdryer, a Stanley knife, some U-shaped bended pieces of 1,5 mm2 electro wire to underlay at the places where the screen is yet detached.

my 2 cents:
i did replace the screen on an 10 twice
the first one would be good quality for 80 bucks
but i broke it during replacement a bit
the second was a 30 buck chinese shit
on top you need like 10 bucks for the stickers
on 10 mI it was doable.

my personal quote in replacing screens is around 50%
i broke one ipad screen, one laptop screen, 2 phone screens during replacement
i mean the things did then operate, but they had still a broken screen afterwards

maybe you buy a cheap one and a original one

Yes the new screen must be treated like a raw egg until it’s fixed in it’s final position.
