How to make the GPS work with a Jolla C2?

In Chum you need to set version 4.6 as Chum doesn’t have 5.0 yet.

Yes, I saw that in this message: Pure Maps (Native map app) - #300 by JoshStrobl

Unfortunately, puremap, installed from Chum, still doesn’t work.

After launching the application, it is automatically minimised.

OSM Scout server installed from Chum, maps downloaded. However, there is an error (see screenshot)

I can second this … after starting Pure Maps it immediately goes in the background and you have no chance to set it to offline mode or whatever … is there maybe an other way to configure Pure Maps? Maybe with an config or ini file ?

On reading this message Pure Maps (Native map app) - #303 by explit, I launched Pure maps with the terminal. A number of dependencies (libraries) are missing:

Even if you get Pure Maps working (installing OSM Scout Server, downloading the map for your region / country, launching Pure Maps with your phone set to offline, etc.) at least in my experience, you still won’t have functioning GPS (not really related to the two). Just testing with GPSInfo never provides a location (lat / lng) in my experience.

It works for me. But first time (and sometimes later) it needs to download some satelite info and that can take time.

I have had it running for 5 minutes now, for a moment it found 2 satellites in view, dropped down to 1, at no point has any of them been in use. At no point has it gotten my lat/lng. Seems pretty busted to me.

Tried:

  • With and without wifi enabled
  • With and without high-accuracy positioning (using either high-accuracy or device-only mode)
  • With and without battery saving mode
  • Custom settings: Tried with the offline & online position locks, tried with only GPS positioning

What settings do you have enabled under Location?

Must say, that sometimes it takse too long until first fix. And accuracy is not very good. Using OSM Scout navigation, it jumps between the streets on screen.
I this C2 bug, that we need to keep GPSInfo-app running to use other location needed apps (navi, camera etc)?

My GPS fix was ok, from time and accurancy point of view. What I have installed addfitionally is the MLS manager. Maybe it helps getting a quicker fix.
Greetings.

Forgot to add + Positioning - Western Europe from Store

@aspergerguy can you please try with just GPS positioning (without mozilla services)? I still can’t get GPS working reliably even with GPS info, even after infinite waiting…

Here you are after fresh boot of phone indoors (without Mozilla services) took about 2 - 3 mins to acquire fix:

So what can we do? Is this a problem with OS 5.0.0.43, which doesn’t fully support the Jolla C2 hadware?

do these android utilities also work for Pure map and Jolla OS?

Definitely not.

I was able to launch Pure Map with the guidance of @eson

This doesn’t solve the positioning problem

I had installed it initially and then removed it. I redid the installation and rebooted the phone, without success for me unfortunately.

Don´t use the outdated “Positioning - Western Europe” package from the Jolla-Store (Last Updated 06.05.2021).
I using MLS Manager | OpenRepos.net — Community Repository System which contains newer Data from 26.03.2023.
