How to install Osm Scout Server

how can we install Osm Scout Server (and eventually CHUM Gui) in SfOS 5.0.0.68
seems to be a maze as of today

Install ā€˜SailfishOS:Chum GUI Installer’ from Storeman, this will automatically install the right Chum GUI app for your SFOS version. It needs a little time until Chum GUI appears on the app grid.

In the Chum GUI, go to Packets and type Osm into the search line. It will appear then. → Install it.

that is what i did (following a well know procedure) for CHUM
when i open CHUM i get this warning ā€œFailed to refresh SailfishOS:Chum repository!ā€
and then the list for every Categories is completely empty!???
and it also says ā€œNo packages installedā€ while i have a few of them working on the phone

It looks like 5.0.0.68 is not ready yet for CHUM. Please, set 5.0.0.67 in CHUM->Settings->Override the automatic SailfishOS:Chum repository selection field.

Why did chum work on my 5.0.0.68 test device without any issues? I installed OSM Scout Server on it without setting the OS version to a different one. But it’s 32 bit Xperia 10, so not a 64 bit device.

@Kan_ibal
by default the Settings was at 4.5.0.65
i set it to 5.0.0; 67 and the list are not anymore empty
it looks like i can install OSM Scout Server
but it is impossible to download a map there is no button Download (if i remember well there was such a button previously)
and in OSM Scout the search functions claims there is no Offline map database

Have you subscribed any maps in your map manager? Open the map manager from the pulldown menu and start selecting what maps you want to download.

Are you aware that OSM Scout Server and OSM Scout are completely different apps?

@jeanpierrraubry If you want to use OSM Scout, you don’t need the OSM Scout Server. OSM Scout app is able to manage offline maps inside the app, without the Scout Server.

OSM Scout Server is for having offline maps available in Pure Maps app by Rinigus.

@Seven.of.nine
thanks for the hint, i did not know that (i mostly uses Maep)
in addition it looks like OSM Scout maps are of a much smaller size than the one of OSM Scout Server
any way have a good evening

I’ve got the same issue on my C2. I’ve been tried multiple solutions but none of them works: Chum will not updates repo.

Unless you know some specific reason to set Chum repository version, keep that setting empty. Chum GUI should set it up to the version corresponding to your SFOS automatically. Please also read help message next to that option. 5.0.0 is not valid repo option anymore

As I understood it, from 4.6 and above, version has to be set in 2 digit format (4.6, 5.0, 5.1) and before (so 4.5.x.x and previous), in 4 digit format (e.g. 4.5.0.25) - when different from installed version. Is this correct?

No. Full version is still valid. Available versions you can check in repo.sailfishos.org/obs/sailfishos:/chum

You are supposed NOT to set any version. Keep that string empty and it should work.

Few of them are symlinks, I think. As said in the docs - you don’t have to change this. We shifted to X.Y format recently to avoid this nightmare with constant point updates. See list of repos at Show sailfishos:chum - SailfishOS Open Build Service

Well, this is what was contributed by PRs #327, #334, #337 and #339. As these PRs (rsp. their content) all looked reasonable, I merged these PRs and released these updates as SailfishOS:Chum GUI app 0.6.10-1 on 05 May 2025.

So, ā€œyes, this is correctā€, as it is what the help text states. Until now I was also quite confident that this is technically correct, and still believe it is.

@rinigus, @nephros, @Seven.of.nine and @kan_ibal: Isn’t it?

I cannot confirm this. I’m on 5.0.0.68 and the repository selection field is empty, as it should be for most cases. And everything works.

Anyhow, it seems OP found a solution.

There is nothing to confirm, before posting you can check it on your own. Set
5.0.0.68 and check, that is all. It is as simple as that.

That’s wrong, because it is ready on my device. Goodbye.
