There is no right or wrong way. Some people want to keep the home view clean and close apps as soon as they don’t need it, some people want to keep all of their regular apps open (subset of them want the apps to be arranged in certain order), others open apps as they need and either leave them open or close them depending on the situation, or just how their finger happens to swipe at the moment, etc…
Just keep doing what feels the most natural, or necessary, to you and your everyday flow when using your phone - the way you want, not how the big tech wants you to use it.
