It really reminds me of 13 years ago, when I was eagerly awaiting my Jolla phones! As the successor to my legendary Nokia N9, those unique Jolla phones were a constant source of joy for me for a long time! Now I hope to have a similar experience with the new Jolla from Batch 1!
eSIM support is badly needed these days. Some people have nothing to put into those slots.
Almost all carriers offer a free physical sim-card if you contact their support. Havent heard of any carrier that dont offer you one if you need.
Is eSIM not somehow just disabled in the Jolla builds? I think someone reported it works with certain ports and the SimPro app from OpenRepos.
You can also buy a https://www.9esim.com eSIM card and download the eSIM to it. Natively supported on Sailfish.
I dont really like eSIM as i think you need to ask permission from your carrier to swap it or go through some identification process… I like being able to swap my physical SIM between phones.
I feel eSIM is only benefiting your carrier and big phone manufacturers that have all your data, to make hardware swap only easy for people who dont care about privacy and let them track your hardware too.
Maybe im wrong and in conspiracy land tho ![]()
Good discussion of eSIMs. It would be most beneficial continued for example here:
Just to celebrate I changed the main ring tone on the Charlie 2 back to the old Nokia ring tone. Sound of the past whenever it rings.
Great. I am so excited. I hope Batch 1 will arrive in Germany before the end of July.
I would live to take the new phone on holidays and test it in the Baltic states.
Me too, i will start my vacation last July week, hoping to do that with my new JP2:)
Question regarding unlocking process: if fingeprint used on locked device with turned off display, will fingerprint turn on display AND unlock? My actual 10III requires 2 fingerprint scanns ![]()
Do you know if fingerprint scan will work with android apps as well on the Jolla Phone? Haven’t seen anything about this topic? Just curious ![]()
Would love to know about FP on android apps!
This can be a blessing for some devices depending on the sensor position.
I have a skyline that triggers fingerprint by accident every single time you try to grab the phone. I end up with an unlocked phone in my pocket or I have to type my password because it will register multiple failed attempts.
(There is an option in Android to disable Auto Unlock, you can find it even searching in settings, but that toggle doesn’t exist on the device).
So just from that meta traumatic experience I have, I really hope they don’t change anything ![]()
Or at least to be optional!
@Jolla When will we have access to flashable images of OS 5.2? My new Phone have to stay in the box until these will be available.
Is beer just as expensive here as it is in Norway? ![]()
That’s awesome!
Super looking forward to getting mine when Batch 1 starts going out.
likewise away on holiday from the 25th, hoping it is delivered before then…
It’s really cool that phones are being made again in a legendary factory. Back then, I helped set up the Nokia factory in Salo and supported the production process.
It’s been a long time
I’m looking forward to holding a phone from Salo in my hands again soon
Not before 8th, July. But I think I read between the lines, that an official release for the other devices could last a a bit or even a lot longer.
Here I am at September ii order waiting until the end of September for my phone. Trying to practise delayed gratification.
