I agree but it isn’t marketed to the general public. It was a crowdfunded pre-order campaign of 2000 phones!
As I have said in my other post - Maybe originally, but I receive ads for these in Reddit. They are advertised specifically as an alternative to the american smartphones.
I am not sure what you mean. The keyboard is auto capitalising words after the full stop (at least in the native browser, in Angelfish an other applications where I used it). If you press shift in that case it will reverse to small letters again.
The keyboard is not perfect but especially compared to the awful iPhone keyboard I wouldn’t consider it a downgrade. But tastes differ.
Why can’t you watch youtube? The native browser has some real limitations but even it can do so.
Let me type this message out as innormally apuld on iOS. no capitals after a dullsrop ans so many mistakes. syre, skill issue, but other ketboards handle tjis fine. maybe that functionality is disabled on the browser? it shpuldnt be
i habe tried wirh rhe natice browser and the yutube app - the slow downbon the browser os intense, making everythig else run slpw. the youtube app stuttera like mad. the slowdown happens on other media apps like netflic and disney plus
you may think im exaggerating pn the typing but im really not and i kbow i make these kind of mostakes on ios, bexause sometimes i change the keybpaed langhave and lose thr autpcorrect features.
also noticed that ive lost 15% battery while plygged into a portable xhaegwr since leaving the house so thats worrying?
Maybe it’s not the phone… (And have you considered that it might also be the other way around? That people like the UI/UX of SFOS because iOS and Android are pure crap?)
I make fewer mistakes now than back then on the iPhone. Experiences differ.

There are still bugs with charging, I hope they get it sorted out soon but the latest update did not fully resolve it yet. I made the experience that with an old charger (5V2A) without PD, it works fine. PD chargers can work but some don’t.
It doesn’t work for me on this forum. Maybe it works in other areas of the UI but its inconsistent.
I also figured out that its multitouch that vreaks the keyboard.
As I adressed, I think its an insane response. They hire some of the most talented UX researchers and designers in the world. I hate both companies, but I think its naive to pretend that these designs havent beentested, iterated on, had feedback etc.
I think you think this phone is a planned return of Jolla to selling phones with an alternative OS to the masses.

It’s just a cash grab from Jolla, riding the “sovereign European tech” wave.
The most vocal people on this forum, including Jolla employees, are largely part of two camps (they don’t fight; they just coexist), none of them good for Sailfish OS’s future:
Transcending every camp, there are the apologists, who will somehow try to rationalize every issue that a “newcomer” (many are not actually newcomers, but returning like you, or original fans like me) brings up.
The calls keep dropping ? You’re not holding it wrong, but you should just do some terminal hack every morning. Easy!
The browser is unusable since many years ago? Just install Android Firefox. Easy!
The phones which are “officially supported” since two years ago do not have working cameras? Just use your DSLR camera. Easy!
You can’t pay with your phone? Just use your bank card. Easy!
The official keyboard does not have autocomplete and autocorrect? Just install a third party keyboard from a third party store which contains apps that Jolla wouldn’t even accept in the official store anyway. Easy!
And so on and so forth.
No suggestion or complaint from newcomers is taken at face value and discussed sincerely.
Everything must automatically be argued against, no matter how ridiculous the arguments against it are.
Unfortunately, Sailfish OS on phones is going nowhere fast, just like it has been going for the last decade and a half.
It can’t even be used as a dumbphone because calling the emergency service number might just not work and nobody knows why or when.
Maybe that is something related to Android compatibility? Are you using it for browsing?
I don’t use that but only native programs, so far I have not seen one where it doesn’t do autocapitalisation after full stops.
I am not sure calling others insane is a good way to make a case. The UI philosophy of Sailfish OS is a main reason why it still exists, why people stuck with it and remained loyal even during hard times. By throwing it onto the trash heap, you will alienate the loyal user base that is also well accustomed with what the OS is and what it isn’t.
For my part, I informed myself about Sailfish OS before the switch, I wasn’t fully convinced by the unique UI before getting the phone but now that I have used it for several weeks, I am surprisingly pleased with it. I certainly would not want it to be just another android or iOS UI.

In what world is this ok on a 500+ euro device? I am annoyed now. I am going to have to go home and pick up either another charger or my other phone. This is insane. These are the bar minimum things youd expect! A working keyboard and Battery!

Yes, the native browser has issues but I find yours with the auto-capitalisation after full stops peculiar, as I cannot reproduce it.
Sailfish OS is not a mainstream phone and not suitable for people that just want everything to work, with the full scope of all android apps, just as if it were android. It is a niche product. But while iolala’s post is pretty polemic it does correctly identify to main types of Sailfish OS users: Those that don’t use the terminal much and use android apps via compatibility layer and those that don’t use android apps at all or only as sparingly and try to get everything they need or most of it to work natively. The latter likely use the terminal extensively.
If you see yourself at least partially in the latter group, may I suggest trying out the Angelfish browser? It doesn’t solve all issues and the notch is not accounted for but otherwise it is a considerably more capable browser than the native one, at the cost of having a bit more involved installation and no sailjail for it.
My disappointment grew over the last days while trying to find my workflow with Sailfish, a workflow I have been comfortable with for a long time using Android as my daily device.
And it’s just not there, I also don’t see how SailfishOS or the JP2026 can attract people besides enthusiasts that really like to tinker, but for regular users this phone wont do it as of now, at least for me it’s not usable to the extent I wish to use a mobile phone, it will probably collect dust since I am not willing to spend much time developing for it.
I did not buy it with the expectation that everything would.work. But we are so far beyond that. We are like 20 years beyond the release of the first smart phone. There is no excuse for releasing a device with such glaring issues as certain chargers not working, and a keyboard that would have been considered insufficient for over a decade.
They advertise this phone. It is not a toy. They are charging like 600 euros for it. Equivalent hardware is much better, so all you have left is software. You HAVE to have the essentials down even if everything else is bad.
It’s not your cup of tea. We get it. Sell it and move on with your life.
I was going to say it was a problem somewhat limited to certain websites (i.e. not apps), but now when i test it on the forum, it works just fine. So it seems like it has been improved/fixed. If you can reliably reproduce it - please file a bug report!

Apart from the fullscreen controls lag i made a bug report on - it works great (as it always has).

It just doesn’t mean everything they have is by definition worth taking - nor that it will fit in.
Would it be bit naive to think Jolla haven’t A/B tested, itererated on, had feedback etc. on their UI and UX?
I think you’re providing very valid feedback, but personally I am being forgiving with Jolla. It is a pre-order phone made by a very small company that makes a new phone once every 10 years. You have to accept early versions of new hardware have bugs. Jolla said they’re working to fix the issue with the charger.
In this world! You can’t have such a complex, custom-designed device manufactured for a lower price, independently of working well or not.
The only gripe I have with the phone’s keyboard is that deleting sometimes does not work by holding the delete key. I don’t seem to experience your problems with it.
The issue with the charging is another thing. Jolla needs to get this sorted out.
This is the phone from a tiny company which is not just a mere white label phone with new logo and yet it is one of the most usable Linux phones out there. If you expect mainstream flawnessnes and reliability maybe Fairphone (possibly with /e/os) is a better fit for you?

Even if it did it just for apostrophes and auto correcting things like i → I it would be a massive improvement.
I don’t get the hostility here. New people sharing their opinions on the device is not a bad thing. Most people bought it with the intention of using it. I have even gone in to make my own UX modifications. I shpuld be the target audience for a device like this.
Some of these issues are pretty fundamental, and have been solved even by other linux projects.
They advertise this phone to consumers, it should be held to the standard of other consumer devices.
