Geocaching app for SailfishOS

Hi you all.
Some years ago, I used a native geocaching app called ‘pocket caching’, but it has no direct access to groundspeak and is not available for my C2 - maybe it just doesn’t run under newer SailfishOSs.

Since there are only Android apps like c:geo at hand, I’d like to know, if there exists a native geocaching app or whether there is anything alike under development.

Maybe there are others, too who would like to have such an app natively available for our devices?

I also found Pocket Cacher in openrepos, inactive since 2019, but maybe functional

Besides of that there might have been “Seashell"? But no idea.

I would have loved (and would pay for) AGTL from Maemo times adapted for SFOS

There are no rpm packages available, only deb

Yes. No SFOS rpn package. This deb package is for Nokia N9. I miss this app for SFOS.

AGTL on my second hand Nokia N900 actually made me switch to a “smart phone”. Geocaching where the only thing pulling me off a proper phone…

As of todag I’m using c:geo

i think this is one important app in future needs when people find SFOS and Jolla 2026. I have in apple phone Geocaching app and i wonder how great possibly it is to use in SFOS maybe native app

Yes, it is. And i would like to add that c:geo is by far the best geocaching app with only one downside; it’s android :frowning:

c:geo source is on github and opensource.

I asked Claude about rewriting c:geo to qml silica+pyotherside and for now - login works (with cookies from browser on PC atm.) searching works, list of nearest caches, details of cache, offline mode, import GPX file.

Code/RPM not yet, too soon.

App will have a map. That’s what I need to fix (not showing caches on map after downloading them) and I want to add translations, improve the UI and ideally fix login through webview (to not depend on copying cookies from PC) before I release code/RPM. So maybe on Thursday/Friday or weekend.

Also I need to choose name for the app. Sailgeo, Sailcache or something else?

My suggestion for a name is GeoCove:

GeoCove combines “Geo” (referring to geography and geocaching) with “Cove” (suggesting a sheltered harbor or safe space), which works well for a geocaching app because it implies both the location-based nature of the activity and the idea of discovering hidden treasures in secluded places. The name is also short, memorable, and clearly signals the app’s purpose while having a nautical feel that complements the adventurous spirit of geocaching.
But i like also SailCache.
