DESCRIPTION:

The phone is randomly and frequently shutting down. somteimes it happens when the phone is in the pocket, sometimes it happens when I am actively using it.

PRECONDITIONS:

no special preconditions needed. I use the Phone as a daily driver. frequent use of Adroid App Redit and Firefox, Threema and Signal and other stuff. It seems to me that the use oh Apps which conume a lot of Data, like Redit or Youtube through firefox cause the crach.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. simply use the phone and leave some dataconsuming apps open

EXPECTED RESULT:

Expectation is, that nothing happens.

ACTUAL RESULT:

the phone shuts down without a warning.

MODIFICATIONS:

i have Storeman installed and i found so old package "sailfish-components-webview-jb53103. from @rubdos that i installed for the whisperfish app some updates ago. and now i can not remove it after the update to 5.0. is there a way to clean that up? i don’t know if this package is related to the frequent shutdowns. I did not have them with 4.6

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

When shuts down means instantly off the Battery is likely the cause.

This might well be an OOM killer picking some essential service as victim. Use less apps, less browser tabs.

I was using that phone as well when i still used SFOS, and the constant OOM (out of memory) was getting out of hand. Especially since there are two such killers which do not even know about each other (when using android app layer).

If it is OOM, the problem is known. But not understood let alone solved. And it will not be i am afraid. The general advise found in the forum is to “use less” or to get a more recent device.

I’m using the x10ii and nothing like this append. Maybe a battery problem ?
But the RAM is low and sometimes, apps are crashing when there are too much open.

Today I changed the Battery. I swaped it with my wifes broken phone. seems stable for now. I will post an update after intensive use.

after you mentioned the battery I looked for the charge percentage, and it was quite erratic.

EDIT: since the battery swap my phone is working stable. no restarts occured. Thanks for helping me out!

I’m not entirely sure how, but there should be some zypper command with --allow-vendor-change, possibly a dist-upgrade or so.
