Feedback on Jolla C2

Persistent problems with Jolla email app, while creating/adding email accounts.
This is not a new problem, as I was struggling with the same problem 5 years ago when switching from Jolla1 to Xperia Xcompact. :slightly_smiling_face:

Getting two kinds of errors after inputting the email account information.
Problem with log on and Connection time out. Choices are to go back and edit information or by pass and discard email account.
I am quite sure that the problem is not with the account information. I am directly copying the name, password and server address from notes and pasting the data in to email settings.

I have 2 email providers in use. German Mailbox and Finnish Webhotelli.fi (used to be Telia and now run by Zoner), which I have 3 mail aliases with own domain. Email service is run by cPanel software.
The Mailbox has been non problematic. I go to settings and add a General email account. Fill info and mail is ready to be used in a seconds.
The Webhotelli on the other hand has been a hell on earth! At best after countless trials I get one account working. Maybe next one six months later and so on…

I am using IMAP accounts because only then I can access mail accounts subdirectories, since I have multiple filters for sorting different mails to their own directories/folders.
Webhotelli has same server for incoming/IMAP/POP3 and outgoing/SMTP mail. Thinking maybe this could be a reason for account problems… but then it works sometimes…

Just out of curiosity putting this out to see, if there is some common knowledge solution for the problem or am I the only one struggling with setting up email client with multiple accounts. :face_with_monocle:

I know of one problem with my setup which is self-hosted.
IMAP auth is configured to acccept AUTH=PLAIN, but only after STARTTLS.

AFAIK the account setup does not try AUTH PLAIN, it defaults to AUTH LOGIN.

Solution for me was to edit/patch
/usr/share/accounts/ui/email.qml

and add the line

account.setConfigurationValue(defaultServiceName, "imap4/authentication", '2')

somewhere around line 82.

For me it was only necessary during initial setup, later it works fine. YMMV.

Thank you. :+1:
I looked at email.qml file. Lots of stuff there and I think I figured the place that you are meaning.
My working email setup checked from Sony phone is using SSL encryption and Login is required. I am not sure if our cases are equal. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
I was just wondering, where are the error logs from email client? I could not find email client logs from
/var/log/ Logs could reveal where lynchpin is hidden and what makes the email account configuration such a hit and miss.

Jolla Browser issue.
k-ruoka.fi big Finnish grocery store chain web site does not recognise Jolla C2 browser and recommends to upgrade browser to a newest version.

Tested with 5.0.0.29 (Tampella).
Copied @ ESR 91 thread
@filip.k Thanks.

Received mine. Too big (outlook is nice) with poor screen resolution. Mostly disappointed about camera quality.
They should select better hardware (ready to pay more). One good HMD-device with SFOS would be nice (really like this OS and like to move away from Android). Opening device only with securitycode is annoying (fingerpirnt or pattern is better).
Things moving a little bit slow. All Andriod apps I need (and there is not native alternative), are not working (in one case keyboard does not show up to log in; one app needs notifications enabled (even they are); FB Messenger is asking to save login information every time I open it; notifications are not going in etc.).
And cannot start using because cannot connect to Outlook account.

Haven’t seen this mentioned before so I’ll do it. The camera lenses have a serious build quality (or design) issue in that the glass lenses stick out a tiny bit from the plastic rings surrounding them. This means that when laying the phone down it actually rests on the lens surfaces, potentially scratching them. Maybe even more serious it that the edges of the glass lenses are very sharp, I can actually use them as a paint scraper to scrape paint from my desk surface. Hardly ideal. I will probably 3d print something and glue it around the lenses at some point to protect both the lenses and my desk.

If I were you I would glue a plastic ring fitting in size around the lens, because this cannot stay that way in the long run to avoid damaging/scratching surfaces, things in the handbag and the lens itself.

I want to second that. After a few weeks of using the phone, I can confirm that bluetooth is crashing regularly, even in what should be considered low stress situations (only one app running) although I haven’t dug deeper into this.

Would it make sense to open a separate thread for bluetooth on C2? I’ve noticed that there are now separate threads for a couple of C2-specific topics.

Oh and on that note, the clock alarm sounds not working is also a huge issue for me, and there’s already several related threads for that: [1] [2] [3]

Same here as well, works sporadically but typically does not work immediately after a fresh boot.

It starts working if you force the lock screen once (press power button).

With that power Button of the C2 and the missing fingerprint sensor, double tap to wake up woukd really be of so much help!

Start-Up experience with the pre-set-up device was great, btw.

I notice, that the browser still feels not so smooth when scrolling.

clear command is missing from Fingerterm.
vi-editor doesn’t recognize + option (jump to end when file is opened)
vi seems to be linked to busybox. Is this real meaning?
date command doesn’t recognize -d “-1 day” option any more.
All of these of course in Fingerterm

I printed a lens protector and uploaded it here in case someone would find any use for it: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6854451. Came out not too ugly, certainly better looking than the clumsy plastic case that came with the phone which would of course also solve the issue.

All the following things are not dependent in the terminal app you use: Fingerterm, Toeterm, SSH etc.

clear command is missing from Fingerterm.

Fingerterm clears the screen on Ctrl-l (i.e. a small L), as most terminal apps do.

The clear command is part of ncurses IIRC, which you can install, if you really need it.

vi-editor doesn’t recognize + option (jump to end when file is opened)

This is not a vi option according to the POSIX standard, it is only supported by vim: Either install vim if you really need it, or use 999E in vi after opening the a file (with less than 999 “bigwords”, else use a higher number).

vi seems to be linked to busybox. Is this real meaning?

vi is part of the busybox multi-call binary (as configured and compiled for SailfishOS).

date command doesn’t recognize -d “-1 day” option any more.

IIRC date is also part of the busybox multi-call binary and this option not defined by the POSIX standard.

Until yesterday when I gave my Xperia10iii for reuse to a colleague I did not use the C2 with a SIM card. When moving the SIM card from Xperia10iii to C2, to use it as daily driver with SfOS 5.0.0.29, I can partially confirm with mobile data set to “Prefer 3G” that call in and out works, text in works, but only the 3 first texts out worked. So since yesterday after those three were delivered no further texts have been delivered out. I also switched to “Prefer 4G” to re-confirm neither calling nor texting in any direction worked. Switching back to “Prefer 3G” calling in and out and text in works again. This, no text out, is a bit off compared to other user experiences reported, so is there something I can do to fix this odd one to get on par with the common calling in and out and text in AND out works?

Thank you for the answer! I have made a lot of scripts using these options. I have probably installed these (ncurses and vim) on my old device and forgotten about it.

I noticed that the C2 running Sailfish Connect can’t find my computer, even though my Xperia 10 II running Sailfish Connect, connected to the same network, can find my computer just fine.

In the same way, the Xperia 10 II is able to effortlessly find WiiM devices with the WiiM Home app (in Android AppSupport), whereas the C2, connected to the same network, can’t find anything at all. Entering the computer’s IP address in Sailfish Connect doesn’t do anything, either.

I checked the settings on my router, but the Xperia 10 II and the C2 have exactly the same settings applied to them, so the problem must be on the device. But what could it be?

Edit: just to be clear, the Android AppSupport side is connected to the internet. It just can’t seem to find the other devices on the network.

Have you tried ssh or scp? I have had some difficulties when having conflicting ip addresses with the other devices. Somehow managed to connect though.
