Feedback on Jolla C2

Interesting, uber installed through this almost works (doesn’t complain about missing play services, but map doesn’t work), as opengapps script doesn’t work on C2 seems like an interesting alternative (unless someone figures out how to fix opengapps, but they seem to be stuck at android 11, lineage seems to suggest mindthegapps, but just replacing apks blindly causes endless reboots of appsupport)

I updated the description a bit, I hope I was able to help, now I’m trying other ways to figure out as many compatibility issues as possible.

I got my phone today. I also notice I can only get calls when not in 4g. I installed appsupport. I have a problem. Android apps work only through wifi and not through mobile data.

I also have problems with the proximity sensor. The problem is closely related to the flashing lpm screen function, which can be installed with the previously mentioned command, if so, how do I delete it?

You can revert to default behavior with this command:

mcetool --reset-settings

Internet browser do not show keyboard. I tied reboot, no help. Same happens also with Brave browser.

On my phone the keyboard is displayed normally.

Those are all known issues. See Release notes again.

Before starting a new thread or bug report : I got to setup SSH key access to C2, custom port and no simple password or even root login allowed. It worked just fine… up until it stopped and I had revert back to “unsafe” settings (so to say) in order to access the phone via SSH. My question is : does the /etc/ssh/sshd_config configuration file stay as edited or is it, or anything else related, retouched after enabling/disabling Developer mode + Remote connection ?

Sorry, my bad. Tuning two phones at same time. Forget what do each other.

Persistent problems with Jolla email app, while creating/adding email accounts.
This is not a new problem, as I was struggling with the same problem 5 years ago when switching from Jolla1 to Xperia Xcompact. :slightly_smiling_face:

Getting two kinds of errors after inputting the email account information.
Problem with log on and Connection time out. Choices are to go back and edit information or by pass and discard email account.
I am quite sure that the problem is not with the account information. I am directly copying the name, password and server address from notes and pasting the data in to email settings.

I have 2 email providers in use. German Mailbox and Finnish Webhotelli.fi (used to be Telia and now run by Zoner), which I have 3 mail aliases with own domain. Email service is run by cPanel software.
The Mailbox has been non problematic. I go to settings and add a General email account. Fill info and mail is ready to be used in a seconds.
The Webhotelli on the other hand has been a hell on earth! At best after countless trials I get one account working. Maybe next one six months later and so on…

I am using IMAP accounts because only then I can access mail accounts subdirectories, since I have multiple filters for sorting different mails to their own directories/folders.
Webhotelli has same server for incoming/IMAP/POP3 and outgoing/SMTP mail. Thinking maybe this could be a reason for account problems… but then it works sometimes…

Just out of curiosity putting this out to see, if there is some common knowledge solution for the problem or am I the only one struggling with setting up email client with multiple accounts. :face_with_monocle:

I know of one problem with my setup which is self-hosted.
IMAP auth is configured to acccept AUTH=PLAIN, but only after STARTTLS.

AFAIK the account setup does not try AUTH PLAIN, it defaults to AUTH LOGIN.

Solution for me was to edit/patch
/usr/share/accounts/ui/email.qml

and add the line

account.setConfigurationValue(defaultServiceName, "imap4/authentication", '2')

somewhere around line 82.

For me it was only necessary during initial setup, later it works fine. YMMV.

Thank you. :+1:
I looked at email.qml file. Lots of stuff there and I think I figured the place that you are meaning.
My working email setup checked from Sony phone is using SSL encryption and Login is required. I am not sure if our cases are equal. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
I was just wondering, where are the error logs from email client? I could not find email client logs from
/var/log/ Logs could reveal where lynchpin is hidden and what makes the email account configuration such a hit and miss.

Jolla Browser issue.
k-ruoka.fi big Finnish grocery store chain web site does not recognise Jolla C2 browser and recommends to upgrade browser to a newest version.

Tested with 5.0.0.29 (Tampella).
Copied @ ESR 91 thread
@filip.k Thanks.

Received mine. Too big (outlook is nice) with poor screen resolution. Mostly disappointed about camera quality.
They should select better hardware (ready to pay more). One good HMD-device with SFOS would be nice (really like this OS and like to move away from Android). Opening device only with securitycode is annoying (fingerpirnt or pattern is better).
Things moving a little bit slow. All Andriod apps I need (and there is not native alternative), are not working (in one case keyboard does not show up to log in; one app needs notifications enabled (even they are); FB Messenger is asking to save login information every time I open it; notifications are not going in etc.).
And cannot start using because cannot connect to Outlook account.

Haven’t seen this mentioned before so I’ll do it. The camera lenses have a serious build quality (or design) issue in that the glass lenses stick out a tiny bit from the plastic rings surrounding them. This means that when laying the phone down it actually rests on the lens surfaces, potentially scratching them. Maybe even more serious it that the edges of the glass lenses are very sharp, I can actually use them as a paint scraper to scrape paint from my desk surface. Hardly ideal. I will probably 3d print something and glue it around the lenses at some point to protect both the lenses and my desk.

If I were you I would glue a plastic ring fitting in size around the lens, because this cannot stay that way in the long run to avoid damaging/scratching surfaces, things in the handbag and the lens itself.

I want to second that. After a few weeks of using the phone, I can confirm that bluetooth is crashing regularly, even in what should be considered low stress situations (only one app running) although I haven’t dug deeper into this.

Would it make sense to open a separate thread for bluetooth on C2? I’ve noticed that there are now separate threads for a couple of C2-specific topics.

Oh and on that note, the clock alarm sounds not working is also a huge issue for me, and there’s already several related threads for that: [1] [2] [3]
