Failed battery in Jolla C2

Hello All,

I am not sure whether this counts as a bug report, since I suspect a hardware failure, so I’ll just send in as ”general”, and redirect it later if necessary.

My problem started a month ago, when my Jolla C2 has started to shut down randomly just out of nowhere. It was indicating for example 70%, after the sudden shut down and reboot, showed that the battery is dead. It can be charged, and works while on the charger, but disconnected, it does not last 10 minutes. I am not an IT professional, and haven’t meddled with the OS code either, so I doubt it would be a software problem, (correct me if I am wrong).

I tried contacting Jolla about this issue, written to shop@jolla.com, and submitted a ticket at customer care. It has been three weeks now, and haven’t got any reply from anywhere, which is quite frustrating for me, for I used it not only as a personal phone, but for work purposes as well.

Did anyone have a similar problem? Does anyone have an experience with Jolla customer support, how they operate, and how long is their usual response time? I would also appreciate any tips to where I maybe able to get some replacement part (and what type is needed).

Thanks in advance to anyone for any advice.

Hi @Lundrinn, welcome on the forum,

From what I could read, Jolla people are very busy at the moment with the J2 preparation.
They know there is a delay with customer service. I believe I read that in one of their answers.
It seems to me that users finally get a feedback and a resolution to their issues/questions
You are not the first reporting some silence and the others got answers at some point.
Is your C2 still under warranty? Till when?

Yeah, that sounds like a bad battery. I recommend that you do regular backup on SD and/or somewhere outside of the phone.

A 2-year warranty covers hardware defects from the date of purchase.
Found here:

However, a battery is a consumable part, dependent on usage. While a defect shouldn’t typically occur after a year, it’s somewhat a matter of definition.

I hope Jolla offers spare parts like backplates, battery and displays on their webshop or has partners who could provide them.

A battery may be a consumable part, but being built-in the device and not being possible to (easily) replace it would discard a bad usage of said battery.

Moreover, the phone is not that old so that “a bad charging behaviour” could break the battery in such a way.

In case the hardware isn’t actually busted (but it certainly sounds like it is), you might want to try resetting the calibration.

Import Note: follow advice by human affe_null, not the hallucinations of Claude in that topic.

@smatkovi did you actually succeed in recovering from that issue?

no unfortunately not. if i want to use the phone i have to have it constantly plugged in. i couldn’t reset the calibration

@Lundrinn I can confirm that Jolla helpdesk is very busy. Also I have an open ticket, waiting for reply. Regarding the battery issue, perhaps you could install SystemDataScope app from Openrepos.net (Storeman) or from Chum repository. With this app, you can track how fast and possibly for what reason your battery is empty if it is not totally broken yet.

the problem is, it is in no way empty, but the phone thinks it is empty and immediately shuts down
