ES-Alert Emergency Cell Broadcast alerts (Spain)

In 2022, Spain began implementing the broadcast of alerts using Cell Broadcast technology in cases of emergency.

Today, an alert was launched in my area due to weather warnings, but it did not appear on my Xperia 10 V with SailfishOS 5.0.0.72. I tried turning on an old Android device, which received the alert as soon as it picked up a signal.

I had codes 0 to 9999 activated for some time with @nephros mobile-cb-manager, but it seems that it has not worked in this case.

Neither does it work in Sony Xperia 10 III last SailfishOS version, Spain.

Nothing on my Xperia 10ii either, nor the last time this was announced here.

Nor in the UK on Xperia 10 iii and .72. Either this functionality is broken, or it was never fully implemented. I believe a few have received alerts across different countries, but not many.

And yet another “cell broadcast in country Y is not working” is created…

The situation is (and always has been):

  • Most of the time it does not work, sometimes it does
  • Toying around with topic ranges like this patch does is of no use
  • Even persons like Mal do not seem to have a clue, and Finland does not have a cell broadcast system, so testing is difficult over there.
