E-Mail client: Select text longer than displayed on the screen

I recently found out that if I try to select/copy text in an e-mail, i can only select the text as long as it already is shown on the screen. The moment it is longer than what can be shown on the screen, it will no longer work.

Try it out with any mail by:

1.) Zoom into an email with some text in it, till you can no longer see the whole text width of a line.
2.) Longpress and use the selection handler to select the text.
3.) Pull the selection handler to the side of the screen > it will not scroll the screen or try to swipe on the screen to reach the rest of the text > this will deselect everything / get rid of the selection.

Would it be possible to either:

  • Make it possible to scroll (long press moving around the screen while in selection mode) without loosing the selection?
  • Increase the selection when you go to the border of the screen?

Theres also select all at the bottom menu when you start selecting

I know and you can go to the start of the next line to select the whole line, but this is not the same as wanting to select only a portion of the text but more than fits on the display. This should be possible too.

Great request! Definitely something that should be possible. Should this be added to the github side also?

I agree that the long-press selection leaves much to be improved on SFOS.

Make sure to define what… just saying “much to be desired” is not precise enough for a feature request.
