Dev Device Loaner Program?

Hey folks,

I have been diving into SailfishOS app development using the emulator but when building software that is connected to real devices like cycling smart trainers and HRM ant+ devices, emulator isn’t really useful. Investing into a Jolla device is at the moment not financially possible + the delivery times are very long.

Is there any app dev loaner device programs that Jolla or other entities are supporting? I’d love to build more native software for the OS, as I find it becoming exceedingly more important in the coming years but without access to a device, it is very limited.

Welcome. Nice to see you here at last. Why do you need so much time?

Dev wanting money can join here:

A missing device is not a big problem. Look here for offers of used phones.

Making apps networking with iot devices are always welcome. The emulator comes out of the box with network connection. What is your problem with connecting a ip address?

Thanks

I’m working on some fitness related apps I’d like to bring to the OS natively. These use Ant+ Bluetooth and BTLE connections. I’ve not figured out how I’d test BT connections in the emulator.

Bluethooth has some threads here, maybe you can try a search here. For me the emulator has no bluethooth.

But one other point: Before hacking you should learn something about the SFOS world. Read in the documention and read this:

Apps published in the Store have some restrictions. There are also Chum and OpenRepos, see here for more informations.

Buy motorola moto g2, you can buy them for pennies and it’s fully working sfos adaptation. Perfect for such purpose.

Or edge 30 neo

Or oneplus 6

they’re all insanely cheap and have fully working sfos. you don’t need android to develop sfos apps

Long story short go to https://verdanditeam.com/ and pick what you like

Disclaimer that it’s your project would be nice.

I don’t see need for it? It’s not something negative that I’m involved nor does it matter or change anything at all.

A small typo on your website…

Thank you kindly

Funny enough I already fixed it if you click the device but the one on main page is hardcoded I think

A common courtesy to let people know you might not be fully objective.

You can search for the progress/state of these ports and also ask other people in the forum.
G2 is supported for 10+ years now as an example. No one needs to “believe Magisters claims”, they can just search the forum/telegram.

Also no one is making money from these so no disclaimer needed.

@Lehtimaeki i also bought one „DEV device“ for me to test and develop on real device (as i had some trouble with missing dependencies which where there on emulator but not on the devices) and bought a used Fairphone4 for 50€ on ebay - community port installation was quite good and took a half an hour

so maybe that’s something for you as well

fairphone ports (all of them) are made by @mal who’s jolla employee and a freaking goat so I shouldn’t even have to say anything but I will just say that I vouch for them

yeah, I’ve rarely come across such a well-documented flashing guide - everything worked out of the box
