Hi everybody. I use Deezer on my Linux desktop and the android app on my C2. Since it is a Europe based (France) company and there is a very well supported Linux version on github (Releases · aunetx/deezer-linux · GitHub) as well, I wonder if there is a chance for it to be ported to SfOS? What do you think? Are there other people interested?
I haven’t ever used Deezer before (didn’t know about it), but would definitely check it out if it will get native app! I kind of don’t like how Spotify is these days, so would like to switch. Do you know, is the android app open source?
Been using Deezer for a few years now and would love a native app. I thought that I’d contact them and ask. Plan B is if someone is able to create one. They do have API available, but not sure about the terms of use etc. so that needs to be clarified.
I have asked the dev of the Linux version about that and if he were willing to support a port to SfOS. Hopefully, he will answer me (maybe even soon
).
Have to admit, don’t know anything about the Linux version, but I looked around in the Github repo and thought that isn’t it an Electron app based on the Windows version? So an SFOS would need to be made from scratch.
Maybe one day we can enjoy a native deezer experience. Until then, or until the browser gets updated enough for deezer to work, I need to use AAS every now and then ![]()
Yes please make that native Deezer app!
I hope Deezer will do it, but if not: does the Android version work well enough?
Yea works well enough. Sometimes some fps drops but no other issues other than that.
Just foud this from the Deezer forums: APIs to enable 3rd party apps? NDK not available, Javascript SDK not working | Deezer Community, bringing music lovers together
So, it looks like a native app at the moment is a no-go. Too bad.
Dont the appimage work? havent gotten my C2 yet but appimage whould work if it is a linux system it runs.
Used their android app before… But quit, among others, after that ridiculous UI update. Luckily alternatives exist.
Mmmmmh Sailfish OS doesnt have per say a ‘Desktop’ environnement, so I doubt it would.
appimage usualy have a package for managing the program contained in it, but if i dont install the managing program it still just runs just not getting copied to a location and put into the program list, maybe it is something from kernel that just makes it run, havent looked into it, not an expert but saying my experience i have, cant talk about a phone or system i havent recived yet, just thought it worked since the phone runs Linux.
Here it sounds like Deezer allows only 30sec streaming through API. So not really usable I’m afraid. maybe they would be willing to make exception for SailfishOS, but I doubt it a little bit. Deezer for developers
As far as I read that doc it’s just depending on your subscription. So that gives you full track access via the api for paying (Premium) users.
On Github is unofficial CLI version… maybe someone could build native UI around it if it works on SFOS. I don’t use Deezer so I didn’t try it.
I believe Deezer doesn’t want to support ripping and similar functions due to its licensing rights. That’s why they limit the options within their app (see also the footnotes in the screenshot you posted) and request the same for any other. In general, however, it is possible to play entire tracks via the API. For example, there is even an existing audio source for Music Assistant based on GitHub - browniebroke/deezer-python: Deezer client for python · GitHub . However, they also make sure that you can’t just rip tracks…
As that also would be even more unfair to the artists than streaming is anyways, I fully support their cautious approach.
I hope you are right! As the native Deezer app would be very nice ![]()
Hi there, I asked the author of the Linux app, whether he were interested in helping to create a port to SfOS and here is his really great answer:
”Hi (@DevuanLinuxMan),
This project is the main unofficial port of the Deezer desktop app to Linux.
Deezer’s code is proprietary, which is why we don’t directly redistribute the modified source code. What we do is recompile the official native Linux app, with a few fixes added to improve compatibility. We’re in a bit of a gray area when it comes to the terms of use. We’ve contacted Deezer, but we’ve never received a response, either positive or negative. That’s why there’s no license if you were wondering.
I’d be more than happy to help you port the app to Sailfish.
But before that, we’re already distributing RPM and Flatpak packages, and technically could also distribute an APK I think. Would one of those work for you out of the box? (Excuse my ignorance about SFOS)”
Since I am not familiar with programming very well and after I read all the messages here, I guess, none of the mentioned formats would run well under SfOS - would they?
