It’s too late but Lipstick support, Sailjail support, LUKS support, PIN support, Theming support. Mostly because they can’t make it optional but roll out something incomplete and incredibly buggy. I wish they get priorities right, like nobody needs nice ringtones atm, but they already have something cooking while the whole OS is not in the state for daily usage, let alone the hardware.

Nice analogy, but here it’s more often arriving at someone’s house on a dinner invitation, immediately start criticizing the color of the wallpaper, general architecture, and choice of flower decor, insulting the sister of the host, and complaining why one’s favorite soup isn’t served this instant.

I don’t think I’m contradicting myself. I gave a pretty painful but realistic answer. One of the other factors that played a role in Nokia’s downfall was the lack of apps in its app store.
As for the other point, that guy said he keeps getting reports about Android apps, and he’s right. Developers are basically being ordered to “fix this so it works” for all kinds of ridiculous apps we’ve never even heard of, and it ends up being a waste of time. That’s basically what I was trying to explain.
As for social media, okay, you’re right about the whole data-harvesting thing and how it manipulates you and pulls you in. But I’m Gen Z, I’m young, a lot of my friends hang out there, we share our daily lives there. Or say I want to listen to music — am I not supposed to install Spotify or Shazam? Am I supposed to go back to the old days, download songs as MP3s and save them to my phone? When there’s clearly a more convenient option, what am I supposed to do, buy CDs and cassettes and listen to them on my Sony Walkman? 
As for AI, if it’s local, then why are you so against it? To me, that sounds like you don’t trust Jolla. If the AI is based on Jolla’s own infrastructure, then why shouldn’t it come by default? I’d actually like it to work as some kind of assistant.
Ah, whatever. The only thing I’ve understood from all this is that there seems to be a roughly 30% group of people who use Jolla mainly for privacy and simply don’t want innovation. I think Jolla genuinely needs to make a decision here, because if it wants to become a modern third alternative operating system, then this AI thing needs to make the OS more convenient in some way.
And man, the browser interface is terrible in my opinion, for example. It hasn’t changed in years. People have complained about it here and there, but apparently it hasn’t made much difference.
Anyway, I’ll leave this situation to them, their fate, and their point of view. It’s up to them.

I already use iOS. I use Sailfish OS because I used MeeGo back in the day, and I’m glad to see that it’s still alive. You have absolutely no right to come at me with a dismissive statement like “then go choose those instead.”
Also, honestly, I think it’s time for a new topic to be opened. I don’t really want to be the one to open it, but if you’re targeting mainstream users, then most of the things I mentioned need to be there. After all, the newly sold phone is being marketed as a European phone, isn’t it? And it’s being presented as an alternative to the three operating systems, isn’t it?
Go and look at what happened throughout history to companies that made technology harder for users, and then take a good look at what happened to the ones that made things easier for them. I don’t even need to argue my case any further — the evidence and most of the statistics are already there.
To sum up the video briefly: if you don’t want to shoot yourselves in the foot again, learn from the past. This isn’t about stubbornly digging your heels in.

A huge chunk of everyday problems would have been solved if firefox was working the same way it does on my laptop. We don’t have that.

On that note I really (and I mean it) hate youtube (or any other, as a matter of fact) inline/iframe/whatever automatic code rendering here on the Sailfish OS forum.
I trusted this forum my main browser and last thing I want is cookies/beacons/pixels/whatever from anyone else except sailfishos.org itself.

No, nobody is waiting. I have no right to blame you, but I’m speaking in general here. For some reason, whenever someone points out that SFOS falls short in certain areas compared to the mainstream, at least four or five people on the forum immediately jump on them. Why do you attack them? Couldn’t they be right? Or I don’t know, why don’t you ever stop and think, “Why does this guy see it this way? Why does he call it mediocre? Maybe we should actually look into it.”
That’s exactly where the problem starts. Then people like him and people like me are basically doomed to get looked down on in this forum.
And honestly, the most unfair thing I did to myself was openly showing this side of us and expressing what we actually think, because all it achieved was getting us dogpiled. If I’d known, I would never have expressed my real opinion this openly.
I could’ve just done what the others do and said, “Dudeee, Jolla is absolutely legendary in every possible way,” farmed 10 or 20 likes, and become one of the well-liked members of the group.
But that’s not me. I’m just not made that way.

Indeed, one of the apps I installed did that. Active covers are interesting, but are nothing more than another take on widgets - nothing original. They also function as running apps indicator - not the best if you run a lot of apps concurrently. Plus, most of apps do not show anything interesting or at least distingushable from others - I have a desktop full of meaningless accent-color-tinted rectangles.
UI is like a joke: when joke needs explaining, it is not a good joke. Not doing something just because “that what Android does” is equally dumb - it has been said multiple times that Google and Apple have limitless resources for UX research. But nooo, let’s reinvent the wheel or keep using the old rock, “because it always has been like that and look how unique it is; heavy and needs a lot of practice, but at least it is not stained with ReSeArCh”.

Yeah but i don’t even get your attitude.
I spent aaaages distro hopping before i happily found Arch and Niri, love them because they install nothing. No stupid app tray or status bar or quick wifi connect dock widget shit. Just nothing until i decide to install it.
And that’s what sailfish is, minimal power shell.
For people that want a ton of default shit they can’t opt out of, there are two alternatives already.
For people that want choice, there is this. And you can patch it to whatever mess you want, but it’s your choice.
Let’s keep it that way.

I think there is truth to this. The design is deceptively stylish but the marketing is not clear on how much effort it takes to make essentials work (banking applications are essential where I’m because logging to municipality and government services depend on bank provided strong verification).
I think the expectations new users have are high because of the design aesthetics (and we are processing the expectations here).
