Containers GUI not working as per GitHub instructions?

Hi all,

So in the pursuit of an office suite for SFOS on my SFOS 4.6 Gemini, user roundedrectangle in another thread helpfully pointed me towards Chum and Containers in that repository…with my goal being able to install and boot up Abiword or similar from within an instance of Ubuntu, Debian or whatever I can get working.

I’ve followed all the GitHub instructions, there aren’t many for the GUI, it’s just install and done far as I can tell (step 2 under ‘From Chum community repository (stable)’ section)

GitHub documentation

As quoted:
Install Chum from here, then search for “Containers” in its app list. You’re done

Trouble is, it just doesn’t seem to work…very unresponsive - I’ve managed to get a Ubuntu container installed, and I’ve looked at the troubleshooting section of the Git too. My username is defaultuser (as required as per GitHub). I’ve also done the below:

When creating a new container from the GUI, sometimes the new icon will not appear immediately, and the Xsession setup script will not launch automatically even if you checked the option; if that happens, go into the page of that new container, hit “init container config” at the bottom, start the container from the pulley menu, and then hit “setup xsession”

I’ve stopped sessions, frozen them, rebooted but I just can’t get the system to work. Any response would be welcome

Thanks

What exactly doesn’t work for you?
Starting the container? Creating one? Starting the Xsession?

All of it really;

  • I have managed to create a Ubuntu container but cannot create more (another issue I’ll look at later)
  • I can start the Ubuntu container I have and it is shown as ‘RUNNING’ but I cannot start the xsession at all, even pressing the ‘init container config’ first, the pulley ‘Start’, then press 'Start xsession ’ workflow as described in the GitHub help

I’ve uploaded a video with this post but a better quality gif can be seen here:
