I am getting OTA notifications, telling me 5.0.0.78 is available.
This is confusing me for several reasons.
- I think I remember when SFOS 5 was released that it was said that 4.5 is the last version that will be supported on this device.
- My device is already on 4.6
- The supported devices page says 4.4 is the last supported version (Supported Devices | Sailfish OS Documentation)
Could someone please clarify? Are all versions announced on the device safe to install and does it mean there is support for it?
No, there was no such announcement, you must remember wrong.
No it does not – if you read more carefully, I’m sure you’ll notice that instead it says 4.4 was the first version to support the Xperia 10 III. You getting the update notification for the most recent OS version released is perfectly normal and the 5.0.0.78 version is safe to install.

Thank you @makrolon - I can’t find it anymore, you’re probably right and I misunderstood something.
Not my best day
Thanks for keeping a respectful tone.
I’m glad I can still continue to use this phone an get support. It seems it’s the last of a kind (small).

Please report back how you find your phone after you update, or better still wait 2 weeks before updating as 5.1 should get a general release by that point. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how much the OS has improved over 2 years
For me it just works. I didn’t notice any big changes, but some small quality of life things. Which is great btw. I haven’t had any problems before and after. Maybe it feels a little bit smoother. Responsiveness is very well. Differentiation between ‘close app’ and ‘system status’ gestures works a little bit better and is now indicated visually.
