Community meeting on IRC 22nd June 2023

Schedule: Thursday 2023-06-22T07:00:00Z   :world_map:   :date:

Topic proposals for the meeting:

  • Add your name/nick using the template below to suggest a topic.
  • Indicate how much time you’ll need so we can time-box the meeting accordingly.
  • Please be as thorough as you can with your question/topic.
  • If you can’t make the meeting please ask and name a substitute.

It is expected that you show up and present your topic, or name a substitute and make sure they attend in your absence. These IRC meetings are for real time participation and live discussions, otherwise you can post the topic on here and get responses that way.

We need you to be present to clarify details in the topic, and to ensure the discussion is leading to the answers you are looking for! If you do not participate or your question/topic isn’t clear enough it will be postponed. Also: always ask for more time than you anticipate your topic needs!

Please have your topics ready at least 3 days before the meeting so we can prepare good answers. Topics announced afterwards will be postponed to the next meeting.

  • Name/IRC nick: karry
  • Topic: User space low memory killer
  • Some details about the topic: Many users, including me, are not satisfied with current behavior of low-memory-killer kernel module. Even Android moved from kernel module to more flexible user-space lmkd. I’m not saying that it would solve all memory related issues, but some flexibility would help here. Is there any plan to move to user space implementation for SFOS? What implementation? lmkd from android, systemd-oomd, facebook’s lmk or other implementation? Is there something where community may help?
  • Approx. time needed: 5-10 minutes
  • Substitute (optional): I will do my best to arrive to the meeting…

  • Name/IRC nick: poetaster
  • Topic: python3-sympy, python3-mpmath
  • Some details about the topic: Is it possible for these to allowed in harbour? I alone have 3 apps using them and packaging for harbour is a real pita. sympy is also quite large (end up with 10+mb rpm). With @nephros help I have them in chum which is nice, but as with Jollas efforts for PIL, having packaged solution is not just much more convenient, but more sustainable.
  • Approx. time needed: 10-15 minutes.
  • Substitute (optional): I’ll be there.
