Community meeting on 24th April 2025

Schedule: Thursday 2025-04-24T07:00:00Z   :world_map: :date:

Sailfish OS Community Calendar (ICS format)

Topic proposals for the meeting:

  • Add your name/nick using the template below to suggest a topic.
  • Indicate how much time you’ll need so we can time-box the meeting accordingly.
  • Please be as thorough as you can with your question/topic.
  • If you can’t make the meeting please ask and name a substitute.

It is expected that you show up and present your topic, or name a substitute and make sure they attend in your absence. These IRC meetings are for real time participation and live discussions, otherwise you can post the topic on here and get responses that way.

We need you to be present to clarify details in the topic, and to ensure the discussion is leading to the answers you are looking for! If you do not participate or your question/topic isn’t clear enough it will be postponed. Also: always ask for more time than you anticipate your topic needs!

Please have your topics ready at least 3 days before the meeting so we can prepare good answers. Topics announced afterwards will be postponed to the next meeting.

Sorry my bad forgot to inject to today’s meeting. I tried to cover that in last week’s newsletter

Would be nice to get some infos, how long xa2 will be supported. My only sf-device atm, but i would like to enter the ship again. 5g is a must have, banking APP support would be nice for a daily driver anyway. I cannot join the meeting, thanks for any infos in advance.

Would be also nice to get some info on Mozilla Location Services status and its potential replacement (or other ways to speedup getting location). In my environment it might take up to week to get fix after reboot / GPSInfo restart which is major blocker preventing using C2 as primary device.

What a lot of bullshit. By now you should know that Mozilla Location Services is EOL, and there are no (working) replacements AFAIK.
About your environment error, that is exactly what it is… an environment error of yours.

Hardin said, “That,” replied Hardin, “is the interesting thing. The analysis was the most difficult of the three by all odds. When Holk, after two days of steady work, succeeded in eliminating meaningless statements, vague gibberish, useless qualifications—in short, all the goo and dribble—he found he had nothing left. Everything canceled out. Lord Dorwin, gentlemen, in five days of discussion didn’t say one damned thing, and said it so you never noticed. There are the assurances you had from your precious Empire.”

Not sure why Jolla would have any update about Mozilla service:

Try there, however unlikely it is

I approached just yesterday beaconDB maintainer (before I noticed this comment) – maybe that could be our MLS replacement. Frankly, I think that Sailfish community would be good addition to increase coverage of the beaconDB. How do you, Sailfish community, see this? Good or bad option?

From a short read it sounds really cool.

I think you should use the template

Ok microg can switch between providers, but on sfos ?
I know we had mls provider app, so now with mls dead what is the alternative ?
Just installed tower collector btw

Have there been any further information regarding the lifetime SFOS license to C2? Will it really be available and if so when ant at what price?

Not yet. It will come during the spring, likely.

  • Topic: AppSupport without libhybris
  • Some details about the topic: The AppSupport packages currently provided to Sailfish OS users (at least on the C2) rely on an Android HAL being present in /vendor. Android vendor HALs can be very messy, and the time spent on maintaining compability with them might be better spent on writing upstreamable kernel drivers for the devices. This is hopefully going to become easier with time as more support for major SoC families lands in upstream Linux. Would Jolla be able to provide AppSupport packages for ports that are not based on Android? How much work would that need? I am not asking about AppSupport for community ports, this is a question about the feasibility of an official port without libhybris.

Thank you for the roadmap and updates!
Of course, this is all fluid and might change, but it’s great to get a general sense of (current) direction.
