Bauhaus Archiv does not sound that swedish to me ![]()

should I pay more attention to this?
AFAIR the amperage (current) is what shouldnāt be too high. I think about 1A is the upper limit if you want your battery to last (they donāt like heat). Of course that can be transfered to wattage 1:1 since the voltage is constant ⦠I think. So at 5V it pulls 5W (if the system is set up so; used to be possible with my XA2).
I use any of the by now pretty old wall warts that have a USB socket. I cannot imagine any of them having 30, 50 or even more watts.
There is no difference in charger amperage, because charger is not connected to the battery directly.
And also, it is generally okay to charge most batteries at 1C (simply ā at the wattage of battery).
Jolla Phone battery is approximately 20Wh, so 20W charger is perfect for the balance of longevity and usability.
It is hard to get specific configuration, but something like 9V 3A charger (27W) will be good enough as well as 5V 3A (15W) which is more conservative 0.75C
Why should i buy a new charger? Iām also a fan of slow loading.
Nothingās forcing you to buy a new charger. Any powered USB-C cable will do.
If you donāt want to wait for an eternity, better check the specs. Back in the time, there were USB power supplies with 500mA or 1A at 5V (I believe the first Jolla phone came with 1A), so something between 2.5 and 5W power output, fully charging a 20Wh battery with that will take you between 5 and 10 hours.
A while ago I started using Raspberry Pi power adapters, they work really nicely and quite cheap and accessible. Also, I can charge my laptop in a pinch. ![]()
Using a steam deck charger getting 0.75%/min (battery buddy reports -2200mA avg), seems to work fine
Yes and no. Some devices do not limit the current sufficiently for my tastes. So one can either use software to have more control over it, or use a weak charger. This was the case on my XA2 and believe me, the difference was palpable (for both solutions).
Right - i already said so.
But software is the better option. It applies across chargers and you donāt need to go fishing for a specific fast charger for when you want to up the current limit that one time. Running a weak charger full tilt for basically the entire charge every charge is also not the greatest idea ever.
Important part here ![]()
You do you - and others do as they want.
What i want to try and avoid is such a strategy somehow becoming gospel.
Some updates on the Reduct edge.35.
It looks and feels very nice.
Both my Xperia 10 III and 10 V puts it in PPS mode at near-max current and then only as much voltage as it needs for desired power. (At least when that is >15W as the voltage of course wonāt go below 5).
Here is my 10 V charging at ~21W. The 10 III did not seem to want much above 18W.
It gets a little bit toasty for me to recommend it outright. This was after putting 1Ah into the 10 V (as measured on the cable). Charging the 10 III, the max i saw was 51 - which actually feels quite reasonable to the touch. (Ambient is 25). Doing the full 35W with this will get quite toasty most likely. Not sure what the JP2601 will max out at, since i donāt have one yet.
Thermal image by my app harbour-thermalcam. Find it on Chum.
Is that youre charger there getting that hot ? Looks like u can fry egg on it
Yes, that is my newly purchased Reduct edge.35.
63C is a good egg temperature⦠so close enough.
It is not a lot of mass reaching that temperature though. (Perhaps a design flaw in its own right).
If i put my hand on it, it drops at least 5C right away, and 50C feels downright reasonable. So i suspect other chargers also get hotter than we think they do.
Ikea chargers and cables are superb to price (about 20⬠overall price). I have given SJĆSS 30W, 45W and 60W chargers + 60-100W cables as presents to friends and relatives.
Quite interesting, that Jolla hasnāt set any recommendations for charger specs officially.
I am wondering here also, which charger to buy when my J2 arrives and I would like to have fast charging if possible.
I guess you didnāt even read first two posts did you?
Jolla says a non-PD charger (slow, older charger) is better for now.
Yes I read. But there are comments, that any PD charger are ok. I wanted to hear experiences of different options and maybe some brands of them.
Instead of this kind of question, you could share your used one model etc.
I havenāt heard recently of any bad experiance in practice besides small charging current or heating.
But it does happen. I remember how badly protected and cheap build electronics was original Nokia charger from 2010. No wonder it died. OTOH that phone still lives and works daily as a great wakeup clock. Despite several very nasty falls.
For my C2 I just use whatās available. PC or car USB port, cheap 1.5 A charger, power supply for Raspberry PI, borrowed ones, ā¦
