My Xperia 10ii suffers on recurring closed applications probably due to too little ram. So i try a new hardware. Good thing is the recurring closed applications issue is with the new Xperia 10iii solved for me. Now it’s possible to listen music and browsing at the same time without that the background music stops.
But coming to this point was a long journey. For documentation both phones are on version 5.0.0.68.
All android stuff is not included in the Sailfish backup and i didn’t found another way as install all android applications new.
Bringing the backup file from one to another phone is only possible via micro SD card. My first try was to copy it via USB to PC but I ran into a MTP issue. Transfer more than 4GB of the tar backup file to the PC is not possible due the copy process stops at 4GB file size. After searching in the new and old sailfish os forum it seems it’s an known behaviour with MTP since years.
After restore the backup on the new phone I had the following issues:
All IMAP Email accounts are not recognized inside the Email application. I add on all accounts the passwords and starting the Email application.
Subscribed ics online-calenders are restored but they are complains in the “Accounts” menu that there is no credential available. On all online-calenders the settings didn’t open on clicking the entry from the “Accounts” menu. The entries from the ics calendars are not available in the calendar application.
Notes are not available on the new phone. I don’t follow the workaround with the nemo user link that I found in the forum. But I found the workaround after I executed the restore.
Wish list for a backup feature request. Please add Wlan networks and VPN settings to the backup function. And a export option for the passwords for accounts would also be nice.
In the end with backup and restore I got the call history, sms, photos and videos from one phone to the other. All other things needs to be done manual.
Are I’m alone with such kind of issues and act so stupidly or had I overseen a instruction how to exchange a phone?
I’m using “My backup” app for backups all android storage and others directories like /settings and apps configuration like Pure Maps.
Not perfect, but it can help to transfer to a new device.
Another possibility is to use Wunder FTP from Openrepos on SFOS, and within your LAN you can synchronize with a sync tool, such as FreeFileSync. With thus setup, I can sync all contacts, settings, media (images, and 100+ GB FLAC music collection), packages for side-loading, keepass files, etc. between my intranet file server and multiple mobile devices with SFOS or Android; controlled by a Debian Laptop. So complete GUI when you prefer this over shells. And I am in full control (but also responsibility) of the content, I don’t need to rely on big clouds and bug apps, and the chain is fully Linux (important for me, since I am an old fart that is too stupid for Windows and its registry, and I cannot make sense of MacOS and don’t understand iOS either).
I was able to restore a Xperia X backup on a Xperia 10 II, only regression, was that Whatsapp got 2 different media folders, otherwise all contacts, messages, the calling list, accounts were restored
Maybe its not the way to recommend, but it works, at least with those two devices…
