Can't install Android App support or Android apps

Freshly flashed Xperia 10 iii.

| Sailfish OS 5.0.0.68 (Tampella)

Purchased free licence which appears at https://account.jolla.com/devices

Searched in Jolla Store for ‘Android AppSupport’ and it does not appear.

Tried the suggestion from the Trouble shooting section of the docs via ssh

devel-su
pkcon install feature-alien

which gives the response

[root@Xperia10III defaultuser]# pkcon install feature-alien
Resolving
Querying
Testing changes
Finished
Fatal error: The packages are already all installed

I rebooted anyway, and tried Jolla Store again - still no sign of ‘Android AppSupport’

If I try to install and Android app such as F-Droid, the install fails after ~30 seconds with an error ‘Problem with installing F-Droid, Problem with store, could not install F-Droid’

Any clues how to proceed?

Thanks

What does “purchased free license” mean?
Android App Support is a paid feature.
IV and V are a bit different with being beta (and subscription in the future), but for the III it is very much a normal paid license.

OK - my mistake. I’ll go and pay

You’ll not regret. It’s worth the small money. Appsupport really works good. Word suggestions could be better but usable.

I’ve paid, and installed F-Droid from Jolla Store. But it does not appear in the App Drawer Grid that appears when I swipe up on the home screen.

  • Is there some other way to open an app?
  • Are Android apps opened differently to ‘native’ apps?
  • What do I need to do to have it appear in the App Drawer Grid ?

Hmmm, odd.
You should first install AAS itself - from store.
Does Settings have an entry for it? (And there - is it running?)
Android apps will show up like any other app in the drawer.

Try install Aurora Store from the F-Droid and reboot the phone. After reboot all the icons should be in place. In the Aurora Store you will find all the apps which are on Google Play Store.

Not an easy way, but something for the worst case scenarios: Settings -> Applications-tab -> F-Droid -> Open Android-settings -> Open

No when everything works as expected.

I’m assuming you have logged in with your Jolla-account on your phone, but have you tried to reboot the phone after the purchase “just in case”?

That was it - thanks. F-Droid now running and appearing in the grid

:+1: I will install Aurora Store, when I’ve got a few other Android apps up and running from F-Droid

Which they are doing now - thanks!

My next question will be about how to access and install apps from OpenRepos and / or Chum. I’ll do some searching, but any shortcuts or useful links would be very much appreciated

Thanks again for all your help.

Everything seems to be working as it should. Time to put the computer and the phone away, and have a beer
