I don’t use VPN, but I do know in Settings, there is a VPN tab under Connectivity, from there is where you set up your VPN, tap that tab and a new screen opens,
you’ll see a notification middle of the screen that says; “There are no VPN connections set up”
Pull down on the top menu and tap “Add new VPN”
I will assume your .opvn file is for OpenVPN?, if so, choose that option, you will be asked to import that .opvn file you downloaded, for it to be installed.

yes i get that, but where do i find the downloaded file? like i said the download folder is empty and most of the other folders too. so i figured out on the proton website that i need to download the .ovpn, which i did, but when i went back to the set up thing in settings as you explained, i couldnt find the downloaded file anywhere to install it. i hope its a bit clearer what my issue is now.

sorry, you threw me with “I downloaded the app”
Go to Settings down to the bottom and see Transfers, anything downloaded shows here. If it shows there, then it should be in /home/user/Downloads/
But, you said as much and it’s not present. Download it again. Maybe the download didn’t start/finish.

thanks, ill try that.

I recommend installing the FileBrowser app by ichthyosaurus, which you can find in the Jolla Store. The built-in file browser is somewhat hidden. To access it, go to:
Settings → Storage → Select the storage item you want to check->Pull down and choose FileManager.

However, I still highly recommend using FileBrowser from filebrowser for a better experience!

i downloaded that but i cant find the app or the downloaded file either. plus i still cant find the ovpn file as i have to find it in settings-vpn etc. dont i?
honestly, this phone should come with extensive tutorials and a good manual, cause this is impossible. i dont understand any of this.
where can i find downloads on this jolla c2, its not in settings-transfers or the document app

Did you download the file using some kind of Android app? If so, then the file isn’t under ~/Downloads, but most likely under ~/android_storage/Download or some other location exposed to the AAS.

I am not sure, if I understood you right. After installing the App FileBrowser from the Jolla Store, an new Icon will appear on the HomeScreen. After opening the App, you can swipe right to the Places view. Click on downloads and select the intern or Android Storage. Here are all your downloaded files located.

i downloaded from the brave browser. in settings theres no download folder. i cant search for anything in settings. i downloaded proton vpn from droidify. i cant find your suggestion either. do i look in settings?
no the filebrowser doesnt appear with the other apps

I never used brave browser, but I guess this is an android version. As mentioned, I never used it, but i guess in this case the files will be stored in the downloads folder of the Android storage. Reachable like I describe in my previous post.

Also I am not sure if Android VPN is working. I would recommend to follow @Edz way.

Have you installed the FileBrowser from the Jolla Store?

In a file browser, go to ~/android_storage/Download and check if the file is there. To me it sounds like you are trying to change SFOS things with Android-apps, which isn’t going to work.

where do i find
~/android_storage/Download if i cant find the file browser app i downloaded from the jolla store?

Install Filebrowser from JollaStore or use the built in one and you should find it inside your home-directory.

If you installed the App from the Jolla Store, you can find it on the Home Screen. Here is more documentation about the FileBrowser.

You could also use a terminal, but I think the file browser should be there and be enough for your use case.

i have downloaded the file browser from the jolla store but its nowhere to be seen. i can see the proton vpn app and open it but cant turn it on. theres no download folder anywhere and there are no files in the pre-installed documents app/folder. there’s nowt in settings-transfers either.
after turning my phone off and back on, i tried importing the .ovpn file for proton vpn which i could see in android-download or whatever its called, but only the folders and i did not have access to the actual file.

You should be able to find it in the app grid, or you didn’t install it properly.

That is the AAS-side of things, it doesn’t do anything for SFOS.

You said yourself, you downloaded it with Brave, which is Android browser, so it downloads the file to the AAS-side, and you don’t see the file under default SFOS listings.

Either download the file with the SFOS browser or use file browser/command line to move the already downloaded file to one of the SFOS directories.

i wont use the pre-installed browser cause its google.
i dont understand how i can transfer this .ovpn file.

whats a file browser command line and where can i find it?

File Browser from Jolla Store has limited functions and doesn’t see all directiries. Use the unlimited version from Storeman!

Downloads from Android browsers are in /home/defaultuser/android_storage/Download .

edit: Install .ovpn config file this way:
Settings/System/VPN/ Pulldown: Add new VPN / Choose OpenVPN / Import file…

It is based on Firefox, so I don’t know what you are talking about?

I suggest you look more into your difficulties with the file browser, since it is most likely the easiest way for new users.

File browser and command line are two different things. You can either download file browser from JollaStore or use the built in (@Systematics already explained how to access that one) and command line can be accessed by enabling Developer-mode in the Settings
