SfOS doesn’t seem to offer “SIM” as an option for the “EAP method” when connecting to a free wifi provided by EE (network SSID “EE WiFi-Auto”).

Interesting, never heard of that before. So a mobile sim card is required to get on the network? Is this a network from a mobile provider that only subscribers are allowed on or something?
Yes, that is correct. It’s available at most underground tube stations in London (as well as many other places in the UK!), although they do now seem to be gradually rolling-out normal mobile signals underground.
