DESCRIPTION:

Contacts that have a birthday configured are given a calendar entry to remind you of their birthday, though the reminder for their birthday is triggered at midnight. And there is no way to prevent this from happening.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Add contact with birthday
  2. 1 Hour before the actual date the calendar reminder is triggered

EXPECTED RESULT:

To be able manipulate whether or not I want to get a audio notification for a birthday reminder.

ACTUAL RESULT:

I’m woken up by a screaming phone reminding me of a birthday, that is unwanted.

Sounds strange. We haven’t used alarms for birthdays since 2013.

You sure these are birthdays from local contacts and not birthday events synchronized from some remote service?

This is caused by Nextcloud for me. That automatically generates a ‘Contact Birthdays’ calendar from contact data, and sets alarms for midnight on the start of each birthday. A bug has been open for quite a while featuring other annoyed people.

I turned the Nextcloud one off and just use the blissfully alarm-free SFOS one.

Interesting as I only have Nextcloud set-up for the back-up of the device. It should be weird if that does generate a calendar entry.
