I can confirm that i had this behaviour at least once. Not sure which upgrade it was, and since it is hard to reproduce i did not report it.

I believe it’s common to see this when the device went down with empty battery, probably because Power Saver Mode set the display to low brightness, and that sticks.

Hmm. I don’t think my device has shut down with low battery, unless that happened during shipping to me.

But it is an interesting observation! Now, where would the low brightness setting persist? If we knew, I could check the value in preparation for the next update, maybe poke it a little to see what happens

Edit: I’m pretty sure at least one update since 5.0.0.5 did not show this behaviour. So less likely that state has been preserved since the very beginning. And recent shutdowns have all been with reasonably charged battery.

Edit 2: I did run this update with no connected charger; battery was still at 50+% after update.

Confirm very low backlight also on 2 devices Xperia 10, one with 4.5.0.25 and one with 5.0.0.68. It’s at the first question for phone code after power on and before decryption, where it’s not possible to set the brightness higher.
On the second question for phone code, brightness can be set higher by pulldown menu.
Is there any hack to make the fixed value for startup brightness (before decryption) higher?
This isn’t a regression, but present since some time, maybe long. Never cared about this.

edit: To precise this for my devices: No problem in the evening or low light, difficult in daylight, impossible in bright daylight or sunlight, where working on the booted device is still possible but hard to read the screen.

Yep, +1 on this for X10III, this is definitely not C2-only.

Oh, that’s interesting! I first encountered it when updating my C2, maybe even on the first update from 5.0.0.5. I thought it hadn’t booted yet so it took a long while before I noticed there was actually something showing on the display…

My other devices have come up with decent brightness on every update from 2018 to present.

Same. I Recall low backlight with 4.x… definitely now with latest 5.x - with X10 iii

Interesting - I have never experienced this with my X10 III

Have seen this too with my 10 II. My guess was I had left the device on low light before updating (auto adjust is disabled). The update progress screen always is at a much higher brightness, and I think this contrast difference makes the following screen seem darker. But that is just my hypothesis based on a few occurrances over some years.
