[C2] Selfie camera does not focus (probably notabug)

REPRODUCIBILITY: 100% (always)
OSVERSION: 5.0.0.21
HARDWARE: Reeder S19 Max Pro S - s19mps - s19mps - 1.0.0.15 - aarch64
UI LANGUAGE: English (UK) (user: en_GB, os: en_GB.utf8)
REGRESSION: not specified

DESCRIPTION:

Don’t know whether the HW should be capable of doing this, but the front/selfie camera can not focus on objects closer than ~30cm from the camera

PRECONDITIONS:

Using stock Browser, Camera permissions granted for that website.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

The use case is trying to register a new SIM at Crif FPI Assistant

The process involves taking a pic of some ID card, and the site uses the selfie camera for that.

While the face is fine wrt. focus, trying to get the card to scan does not work as it is always out of focus. If it is in focus, (beside your face), it is too small to be registered.

But really, to reproduce, try to focus on anything closer to the camera than your face.

EXPECTED RESULTS:

Selfie camera should focus.

ACTUAL RESULTS:

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Patchmanager: yes
  • OpenRepos: yes
  • Chum: yes
  • Other: none specified

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Actually, forget that use case mentioned above. I tried with a Laptop, and it has the same issue. That site’s process is just stupid in that it doesn’t let you upload a picture.

I’m pretty sure the selfie camera is fixed focus. Having a really small sensor with a short focal length (wide angle), depth of field should be sufficient.
The front cameras of all my Xperias so far have never been able to focus.
