Since the C2 is now practically unobtainable, do you think it makes sense to buy the first Jolla, aesthetically very attractive, but now equally dated? no. I would not recommend it. With 1GB of RAM its simply not usable anymore in 2024. You can buy it as an Jolla Artifact, but not as a second or third phone…

Indeed, first Jolla is too old now.
As a cheap trial with still ok performance, I’d recommend an XA2.
I’m using it daily and for a non-intensive use, it is just perfect in my taste.

I’d recommend to look for a newer and actually supported device.
I’m absolutely happy with my C2 but I expect that some C2’s will be available on the 2nd hand market in the next future.
If you’re not afraid to flash a phone yourself, I think Sony XPeria IV and XPeria V would be the best choice to get a officially supported Sailfish OS.
Both devices are still available in several shops.
SFOS trial images (without commercial components like Android app-compatibility) and flashing guides are available at https://shop.jolla.com
Official SFOS license is expected in the near future.
Also there are many great community ports for different phones.
I use a Gigaset GS5 (Volla 22) for the last 1,5 years as my first device and I’m absolutely happy with it.
GS5 (Volla 22) are also still available for small money.
Two backdraws with community ports: Quality depends on the port/phone you choose. Updates are behind the official ports or may be stopped by the porter at any time (Last released Version for GS5 is 4.4.x but I read, that the porter is working on 5.x) and commercial components are not supported).
But depending on the port you choose these ports work absultely reliable, too.

I’m sure in a few months this will change. Jolla just need some time to fix serious issues then they’ll open ordering as that is in their big interest. And our too.

You may want to take a look at jolla-devices.com, they offer Sony Xperias with the “trial” version of SailfishOS pre-installed (“trial” does not imply a limited usage), so no flashing of SailfishOS is necessary, and they are located in Italy.
Mind that you can upgrade an installation of the trial version of SailfishOS to a fully licensed one simply by buying a license at shop.jolla.com: You will gain Android App Support (AAS), VoLTE (only for Xperia 10II and newer Xperia 10 devices) etc.
Currently Jolla-Devices offer:
- Sony Xperia 10III
- Sony Xperia 10II
- Sony Xperia 10IV (mind that currently only a pre-release of SailfishOS is available for it, hence you cannot obtain a license yet)
Actually a licence for Xperia 10II and 10III is quite cheap at € 24,90.
Do not buy a Sony Xperia 10 older than the 10II, because they will never support VoLTE under SailfishOS.

Due to increased RAM, UX of X10III is drastically improved over earlier models, it’s currently the only sane choice from olf’s list.

I’d say it depends on what you want to do with it. The Jolla Phone doesn’t have the aggressive OOM handling (or memory leaks) of Sailfish X releases, so you can still do quite a lot with that 1 GB of RAM. The biggest problem is that it’s been four years since the Jolla Phone last received any updates, so first of all it’s no longer secure, and lots of applications (nearly all Android apps, but also many Sailfish apps) are no longer compatible with it. But to call, sms, take a picture, quickly look something up, write down some notes, and other basic smartphone tasks, it does still work as you’d expect. (Maps are the big exception, because they’ve become way too heavy to multitask on 1 GB of RAM.)
You shouldn’t go out of your way looking for an old Jolla Phone, but if you happen to find one at a good price, you’ll undoubtedly have fun playing around with it and seeing how things have changed over the years. And the TOH concept is still bonkers in 2024, because it went in the complete opposite direction of the identical sterile black slabs that have plagued mobile technology ever since.

Thank you very much. Even an Xperia might be the right solution. for me. And actually the first Jolla could be fine if I found one used at a very onvenient price.

It already is. There were offers in the forum, and I also found one on a generic second-use platform. But the price I have seen there is not attractive so that I won’t link it here.
Also, some C2s were returned to Jolla for a refund, which could be re-sold by Jolla after the dust has settled a bit.

depends on your needs…
i am not fun of having app for everything even for opening doors to the toilet… so I still using Jolla Phone because i purchased three pieces and each is for 5-6years then micro usb stop charging. the phone running on SFOS 1.1.7.28 (somehow for me this is last version with better gestures and layout, mostly i can feel the difference in car when there is no time to watch the screen and focus on what you touching)
i use it as primary phone for calling, sms/mms, xmpp chat, email, music player, notes, lists, calendar, calc and sometime to check my own simple webpages (you must update ca-certs anyway, but browser is rly outdated, most of modern webpages does not work)
my secondary Jolla phone is used only for sms verification codes and it runs SFOS 3.4 what i dont like as much as v1 
but from what i reading here on forum still better to have old Jolla phone in pocket for daily usage than C2 or Xperia X V (i have one too )…
for other things i have few iPads and iPhones or Xperias with last SFOS or PC or Laptop… so it is up to you
