Bluetooth with android and sfos 5.x

Have the bluetooth problems been solved with SFOS 5.0, i.e. can I also use bluetooth to its full extent with Android apps?
Is there a chance that bluetooth support will be introduced in 5.x?

There is no Bluetooth support in the current release of Android App Support. While there isn’t any announcement of future plans regarding this, I’m sure the issue is on their radar - see for example the log of a recent community meeting.

Like with any and all releases before it, adding this feature (and it’s not ‘problems’, it is a new feature) has never been planned, never announced to be planned and never indicated to be implemented.

Wishful thinking will not make it magically appear.

(The quote above does not contradict this statement. ‘not not wanting’ and ‘novel ideas’ at Jolla will also not make it magically appear.)

Of course. But most feature requests are about exactly that.
And many sailfish users use sailfish precisely because they want or need to use some android apps.

While that feature is nice to have, i doubt it will be implemented, only because many users “requested” it.
Maybe it will come one day, if there will be a business case for that.
Instead of implementing closed source Bluetooth protocols under Android App Support, i would be more happy to see native SailfishOS Apps which re-iplementing open-source or reverse-engineered protocols.

Many people forget that SailfishOS is not a Substitution for an Android Phone. Its a Linux Phone which can run some Android Apps in the Emulation.

I also have an eBike (CowBoy) which need an iPhone or Android Phone to unlock. But i will be more happy to have an simple SailfishOS App for Opening the bike…

But that’s what SFOS is and probably always will be.
A nerd: someone who considers privacy a priority.
“Normal” people will always choose convenience over privacy and self-determination - otherwise, we wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place.

As i already said - everybody need decide for himself. Many people are better served with and Android or even iPhone. For me personally SailfishOS is a better System to use. I can live without Bluetooth in Android. I have an old Fairphone FP2 which i use just to open my eBike. While i do this not often, its not a showstopper for me.
But there are many cases, where people cant live without opening a car or a scooter from the phone.

But support for android apps is announced and implemented and a significant feature of SFOS. So this should work with all interfaces for example bluetooth.

The busines case is also based on the functionality of Android emulation. That is exactly why I choose SFOS. And so long as Nikon or anyone else (what’s about you?) does not implement this app for SFOS I am dependent on a fully functional Android emulation. I already use an android phone only for this Nikon app but I doesn’t wish this for the future.
I use as much as possible native SFOS apps, but some special apps like this Nikon app, a JBL app to connect to their loudspeaker or the German DB navigator app are not available as native SFOS apps and I don’t believe that this will change soon.

The only thing i need is google wallet with nfc…

I fully agree you.
And I fear that the future of SFOS depends on a fully functionality Android emulation.
Only when SFOS has so many users that companies like Nikon offer their apps for Android, IOS AND SFOS, the emulation will no longer be needed. But will that ever be the case? It should remain a perhaps utopian goal.

Maybe there are nerds which consider privacy a priority, but need to use an Android app which does not violate privacy. What then?
Maybe these nerds will change to for example GrapheneOS. And if a lot of people do that, things will get tight for sailfish.
And that has nothing to do with convenience if I absolutely need an Android app whose functionality is not yet available as a native SFOS app.

What’s the point of android emulation if I need an additional android phone?
This is at best a workaround that should be eliminated as quickly as possible. Otherwise there will really only be a handful of nerds left at SFOS. And then that would probably be the end of SFOS.

Wow, some replies here really need Android because it is Sailfish OS’s fault we’re run by a majority of dickheads.

Just think about it: are you able to access that bluetooth thingie from a desktop computer? If not, why would you expect Sailfish Linux, just because it runs on a phone, do that for you?

Fight for your right , but bark at the right tree please.

Well I’m not an Android emulation fun, but when I use some application emulation on my PC, I’d expect that Bluetooth works where needed.
By the way, I don’t think it is only the issue for Android apps but also SFOS issue. I faced unstable BT connection when I use SFOS native apps on my C2.

Which is the right tree to bark at?
And please remain friendly and reconsider your choice of words.

Sorry, but I think you didn’t understand the problem of a lot of SFOS users.
It makes no sense to access from my PC to my Nikon camera to transmit the current GPS data, but it it essential to access from the phone for transmitting the GPS data outdoor to the camera.
The same with the app to check the current railway connections and delays and that of course not at home but on the way.
Nice, if you don’t need such apps.
It’s a pitty that people who like the SFOS privacy but need only a few apps for everyday life which are not available as native SFOS apps have to leave SFOS now. And these people are of coures no dickheads.

With fahrplan app you can check the delays. You select deutsche bahn and it tells you the delays of db
