REPRODUCIBILITY: 100% after a while
OS VERSION: 5.0.0.43
HARDWARE: C2
UI LANGUAGE: German
REGRESSION: Yes (works fine on 4.6.0.15)
DESCRIPTION:
Usually I listen to various podcasts on YouTube. I turn off the screen and just listen while cooking etc.
On the C2, all Bluetooth Headphones I own are randomly disconnecting after a while. This happens with various Bluetooth devices:
- Sony WF C510
- Bose QuietComfort Ultra
- Teufel Supreme On
- Marshall Minor III
Sometimes they reconnect, sometimes they don’t and a manual intervention is required. So it does not seem to be the headphones.
All of devices listed above work fine in the XA-2 with Sailfish 4.6.0.15. The C2 is unusable for me this way. I just got it and installed the updates and checked if the problem might have gone.
I will check if this also happens with older devices. All of the devices above support Bluetooth Multipoint connections.
Edit:
Marshal MID ANC also does not work. They as ~ 10 years old and do not support Bluetooth Multipoint connection. It seems the error occurs more often when the screen is on. Apps like Prime in most cases stop when the screen is turned off.
PRECONDITIONS:
- Use some Bluetooth headphones. Maybe some newer models are required
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Open any longer Youtube Video with bluetooth headphones.
EXPECTED RESULT:
The headset does not disconnect while playing some audio or video.
ACTUAL RESULT:
The headset does disconnect randomly while playing some audio or video.
MODIFICATIONS:
None.

I observed the same. Have the feeling, that in environments with lots of devices disconnects are more regular.
I checked with my old headphones and they also don’t work - so I don’t think it is a multi-point connection issue. It seems more like that is some memory issue. Before the connection is lost, the sound stutters.
I don’t mean multi-point but more crowded environments like trains or public transport, where i have the feeling (no proof at all!) that disconnects appear more often then “at home”. So i could assume, that there is a issue with multiple active BT connections in the surrounding. But that is not more than a wild guess.
Oh now I understand what you meant.
I just used the C2 at home and most of the time the headphone is the only BT device near me.
I would guess for some buffer filling up and not getting cleared correctly. After restarting the C2, it mostly works for ~5-10minutes. Then audio gets worse (stutters), then it disconnects and after about 30s it can reconnect for a short time.

Since the latest sailfish version, the connection to the sony headset seems pretty stable. Sometimes it is just muted - so I have to increase the volume on the headset itself.

Have to correct myself. One Day after posting this, it stopped working again.
Pretty erratic.
I observed something, very convincingly for me, and I hope you can verify.
Bluetooth connection issues seems to be connected to bad wifi reception or slow internet speeds. When I reduce streaming quality, or pause a download, bluetooth is pretty stable. Multiple times, when I left home or my job while on wifi, bluetooth disconnected just a couple of seconds after leaving wifi range.
Maybe it is related… But I don’t see a clear pattern…
- BT is more stable when I turn the screen off and just listen.
- It is more reliable on VoLTE compared to my WLAN at home…
- It seems more unstable when connected to the WLAN repeater (which uses 2,4 not 5ghz)…
A WiFi that tries to connect or can barely connect uses a LOT of energy (in general, not specifically for this phone), so my uneducated conclusion says it must be doing a lot of radio.
BT is more stable when you turn off the screen. Is this also true for just listening to audio? I know my youtube player (a newpipe fork) will only download the audio stream when playing in the background. If this is your experience as well, it does match the pattern.
But I don’t know. It was a clear pattern for me, but I might still be mistaken. Anyway, I hope someone smarter than me will connect the dots and this issue can be resolved.
I have similar disconnecting issues with Sony WH-1000XM3 on C2 in crowded places (Wifi off). However, the disconnect happens just for a second or two and then it reconnects immediately after.
PS: I have now tested it for extended time…2 and more hours listening to music and the disconnection happened just once.
