Beginner question on Xperia xa2

I am new to sailfishOS and have been reading up on some documentations and discussions for a for awhile now. Ideally I would like to buy the new Jolla phone or C2 but its not possible outside of EU. So I am stuck with Xperia. And because I am sensitive to PWM. So the only options left are Xperia xa2 with IPS LCD.

My question is;

  1. Will Xperia xa2 have the same sailfishos versioning as Xperia 10 iii? With android app compatibility layer of android 11?

  2. Is it still advisable to use xa2 in 2026?

  3. Will support carry on for this model?

I do not mind sluggishness as long as app compatibility is there.

It was announced that the support for xa2 line will be dropped after version 5.1, this will possibly be in the near future

You could inquire for a C2 or J2 sale directly or maybe try to find a cheap 10 III. YMMV but for me the 10 III is one very good daily driver although I only used it in Europe.

I am trying to find some Xperia 10 iii but the prices were not that great. because the 4th or 5th version of it can be found cheaper sometimes. Problem is that it is still in beta phase.

  1. I think so, but I’m not sure. There was a table somewhere, where you can read this on Jolla Website or Shop.
  2. Do you need VoLTE? This is not working on XA2, also XA2 has 32bit-SFOS - I dont know if this makes a difference in AndroidAppSupport or the existence of native SFOS-Apps.

Yes, technically. But it is 32 bits instead of 64.

If you have it and it works, you know if it works or not for you. But definitely don’t buy one.

You better open a thread proposing to buy a C2 second hand from people in this forum, since its 64bits (some android apps stopped publishing 32bits versions), and since it has VoLTE.

Roughly €120-130 last time I looked. XA2 will be much cheaper.

Problem is that it is still in beta phase.

What is? SFOS on 10III is not beta, in fact it is said to be the best possible SFOS experience.
