I’m very excited about the new Jolla phone. I’m in the first batch and am hoping to receive it not too long into July. Fingers crossed!
This question is addressed to anyone who is planning to use a SFOS phone this year or anyone who has been using one for a while.
Do you now (or plan to) keep a secondary phone for the apps which do not (or may not) work on the Jolla 2 phone?
I thought it might be handy to just keep an old phone nearby and use the personal hotspot on the Jolla 2 to connect the old phone when needed (so no sim card needed in the old phone).
What do you guys think? Are you planning to have a spare nearby or are you hoping that you won’t need to?
I’ve been using SFOS for some time now and I do have a secondary phone (an old iphone) for some apps that don’t work with Sailfish. In my case those apps are very few and I don’t need them in my daily life, so I almost never carry two phones, but sadly yes, I need the secondary phone and I think is highly recommended.
So this actually depends on your needs. But if I have to say it honestly, if you are someone who needs Android apps a lot, on SFOS the phone sometimes goes crazy in the Android layer. My solution at that moment is to restart the phone from scratch.
So I think you will definitely still need a second phone, because lately, if I have to make it to an appointment, I do not take only SFOS with me. I keep my iPhone with me too. The moment SFOS goes crazy, the iPhone steps in.
Always had my iPhone for work and always will have it.
First it helps me separate anything work related, and I also use it for my banking and a couple more apps that I use 2-3 times a month.
Allows me to enjoy sfos distraction free and I also have a device capable of doing anything at any circumstance.
I have been using SFOS since 2013 and the only time I’ve had a second phone, was related to a work project, where I had to carry the phone provided by my employer with me during the project.
Even my bank’s app works on SFOS, if I choose to use it, instead of doing my banking on a real computer.
For me the SFOS history is a bit shorter (2017). I haven’t yet used secondary phone because of missing apps. Many years I didn’t even had any other smartphone. Just in case I finally bought X10V when support was announced.
But it’s true that I don’t want banking app on my phone and in general I avoid app use.
So it does depends on the user.
I have been using SailfishOS for four years now and never had a secondary phone. I just don’t need it for my use case, all of the apps I want/need (native and Android apps), all of them work (including banking apps)
I already gave information about SFOS. I recommend that you read my post carefully.
I also mentioned the problems you may encounter.
Which part of this shows that I did not give information about SFOS? Like many others, I wrote a proper sentence too. There is nothing bad in it. I checked.
I haven’t for a while but then I had to use a secondary phone because of Revolut. That phone sits at home and I only use it when I need to exchange currencies.
Of course I have experience. I own an Xperia 10 III and I use it in my daily life. If I did not use it, why would I give an example like this? I am giving it because I have experienced it.
