Are the Jolla phones not shipping to the USA?

I’m trying to use the email to order the phone, and when I get to check out it paypall seas, it seems we are not shipping to your location, and there is no United States option in the other checkout

It is currently not sold to the US. You can leave your e-mail on the offer page at the bottom. If enough people are interested there might be an option for the US later. No guarantees though.

You have to use either postal relay service in Europe or have a trusted friend act as the recipient of your package.

Proactive & interested people can always buy one of the supported devices and install SFOS themselves.

While the added revenue might be tempting, I think Jollyboys would set themselves up for a world of pain if they officially shipped to the US.

And then, it is a declining market.

Can’t help but think it is a bit funny that US people are so confused by this. Businesses over there refuse to ship to the EU all the time for no reason. Only fair that the shoe is on the other foot every once in a while.

As individuals, they are perhaps not at all aware that some US businesses refuse to ship overseas. (as they never order from within Europe).
I, for example, have no idea which EU companies don’t sell to US. Well, I know only one biggrin.

edit: better chose my English words

Yes, not shipping in that direction is pretty rare.
A phone is a complicated device with lots of certifications, silly software patents, special regulations and whatnot.
But US businesses not shipping anywhere else is pretty much the norm.

On ebay there aren’t any Xperias shipping from the USA. (Sony stopped selling there long ago.) So people in the USA have no other choice than importing. In which case, they can prefer try their luck directly with a Jolla Phone.

understandably so. the recent requirement of having to have an EU representative to sell to EU customers had made shipping to us a fair bit more of a pain in the behind. lots of small businesses and individual creators just didn’t have the resources for it and stopped taking EU orders to not run afoul of the law. :person_shrugging:

I’m sure lots of US businesses would love to sell to us if the EU didn’t make it unnecessarily hard.

There are good reasons why an EU representative is required. There is a lot of non-compliance with even basic safety requirements by foreign companies, even now, but that requirement at least gives a legal handhold in such cases.
