Any chance to unlock the bootloader on my Xperia 10 IV?

Hi all,

I bought a Xperia 10 IV and started the installation process from How to install Sailfish X on Xperia™ 10 IV on Linux - The Privacy Respecting European OS and AI Solution Provider

At the “Unlock the bootloader” step I’ve got a “Bootloader unlock allowed: No”.

It looks like some devices are unlockable and others don’t, even for a given model (in my case a Xperia 10 IV).

After dialing #*#7378423#*# as explained on How to unlock bootloader | Developer World , I looked at the software information page which shows a KDDI-K4 - user phone software version.

I asked to an AI which told me KDDI is a major Japanese carrier which always delivers bootloader-locked devices.

I have two questions:

  1. do you think I have any chance to unlock my device? (I can put “hands on” - I like to experiment)
  2. if it is impossible to unlock these devices, how can I distinguish unlockable devices from locked ones?

I live in France; I didn’t expect to buy a device from Japan.

Thanks for your help.

If I understand the following thread: Question about Android Apps supported by Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia 10 V - #9 by remote it looks like @x11max succeded changing the release of the device?

The chances are likely low, that you are able to unlock the bootloader.
There is a model-name like “XQ-CC54” for you 10iv, that is the EU-Version. The CC-44 or SOG07 are japanese versions.

Sometimes it could be possible. But most likely its not possible, or something isnt working after changing the model-version. But you can try (e.g. with XperiFirm and newsflasher).

Thanks for your answer. I’ll try this and will add information in the thread

Hello,

I finally bought another Xperia and the installation process worked like a charm. I’m currently testing my new phone and especially the android compatibility layer (I need my bank app—business use of my phone)

Thanks for the help!
