Always visible row of apps

Does anyone know why the always visible row of apps was removed from the home screen?

It was there on the original Jolla Phone and it was awesome.
Is there a way to bring it back?
I would love a setting for this.

Only Jolla knows why they changed it. Usually, it’s down to “form over function”.

You can either edit the appropriate file to make the change yourself (without looking I couldn’t tell you which file to edit) or post your idea as a “feature request” instead of a “general” question.

If enough users like the idea and vote it up, it may make it as a setting, but I very much doubt it.

There is a patch, pretty sure the creator is no longer using sailfish and the patch is dated 2018, so probably won’t work/apply.

Patches are for use with Patchmanager, which is available from within the Storeman app.

My advice, for what it is worth, don’t bother trying the old patch with patchmanager.

It disappeared when they switched from vertical to horizontal scroll at time of jolla tablet.

In the beginning you had home with 1 row, swipe up, more apps…

First row disappeared when app launcher became and ever accessible overlay

Omg, you are right. Thank you!
You nudged me in the right direction.

It looks like initially they were also using the row of apps on the tablet as well (as seen in the original Jolla tablet video) at the end of 2014.

But they dropped it by the beginning of 2015, as seen in the Jolla tablet videos from Mobile World Congress 2015.

Maybe it was just for the sake of looking almost identical when both the phone and the tablet were presented on camera at MWC 2015.

From a user and usability perspective it was a stupid decision to completely remove this feature and not even give the option to make the top row of apps visible even if it was hidden by default.
