[5_2_0_16] [JP2026] Graphics engine bug in AAS?

REPRODUCIBILITY: 100%
OS VERSION: 5.2.0.16, Android 15 API 35
HARDWARE: JP2026
UI LANGUAGE: French
REGRESSION: Yes

DESCRIPTION:

When I launch a game in AAS, it seems to run for a few seconds, then freezes. The sound is not affected. (for exemple TWO DOTS)

PRECONDITIONS:

Have a JP2026 upgraded to 5.2.0.16. Haven’t tried it with the base version 5.2.0.11
Have AAS enabled
No Google account entered
No desire to enable MicroG services for this app

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Enable AAS
  2. Install TWO DOTS from Aurora (this happens with other similar apps and some videos)
  3. Open the app
  4. Decline to log in via MicroG services
  5. Wait

EXPECTED RESULT:

After a few seconds with the loading screen, the interface should display a message indicating that it cannot connect to Google services, and then launch the game smoothly

ACTUAL RESULT:

After selecting “Decline to log in via MicroG services,” the app displays either a blank page or a wallpaper with the loading animation frozen.
Minimizing the app and then reopening it causes the animation to advance for a few seconds, then freeze again. Turning off the screen and then re-entering your lock code to return to the app also causes the animation to advance for a few seconds, then freeze again.

MODIFICATIONS:

Installed stores:

  • F-Droid
  • Aurora Store
  • Storeman
  • Jolla Store
  • Chum GUI
  • Patchmanager with Finer Volume Control, though this feature is not enabled

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This game worked perfectly on my X10III with AAS and version 5.0.0.76, Android 13 API 33. I didn’t want to install it on 5.1 because there wasn’t enough disk space, and the JP2026 was coming out very soon after that.

For the X10III, no Google account either, and MicroG services are also blocked. Downloaded from the same store, a slightly older version—26.26.
It’s possible this is due to the app itself, though I have my doubts about that, since other Android apps behave the same way.
No issues, however, with banking apps or browsers (though I did encounter a problem with a video, but I can’t remember the exact context anymore).

Link to the problem description—it seems I’m not the only one experiencing this

it would help if you could mention what is the game, so other people/devs could test.

Also could be partly related to this? Some major Android games not working

Same problem here with Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes. Works without problems for years now on both XA2 and 10 III, but not on new Jolla phone.

Language: German

Patches don’t affect that - already didn’t work without patches.

MicroG not needed, but works, even with login to google play games.

It’s the same when using the VLC Android app: pulling the seek bar forward on some codecs causes the video to freeze, but the sound continues to play. A workaround for VLC is to go back to the video overview and tap the video again. It resumes playing from where you left off, and the video frames update again until the next seek. This is found on Jolla C2 with 5.1.0.11.

It’s possible that this is related to this bug.

This bug report details an issue that appears to be linked to animations and videos. In my case, the apps don’t crash and don’t display any error messages.

Oh, maybe then it’s also the reason that Disney+ has shuttering video? Soynd is okay, but the picture freezes and then jumps to the actual frame, plays one second, freezes again and so on.

Same behaviour for Google Maps.

google maps had some known issues: Some AppSupport apps crashing (Jolla Phone, 5.2.0.13) - #11 by abranson

there is even minor issues with HERE, when trying to change settings it freezes and you need to got multitask view and back every time when you want to do something

also YT app (official and revanced) seems to have same freezing/stuttering issue as well

I also had this one in HereWeGo that the Position didn’t change/actualized.

For me, tested now, Herewego run quite well (basic test, install, run, positioning,…) and sorry for my bad english, i don’t use deepl…

Four days now with JP2. Videos freeze/stutter on every browser. Android or native. Every android app with video or picture freeze/stutter. Even f-droid and aurora store refuse to download images. Closing screen always helps for a moment. Sound is still working even if video is stopping

Does restart do anything for the problem?

I am having the same issues with YouTube - android app, native browser, android browsers.

sounds fine, but the video stutters a lot.

Hopefully it can be fixed soon. I’m not proud of it, but YouTube is my crack. I can’t daily drive it without a working YouTube solution.
