[4.6.0.13] Sharing links between Android apps is broken

REPRODUCIBILITY: 100 %
OS VERSION: 4.6.0.13
HARDWARE: Xperia 10 II
UI LANGUAGE: German
REGRESSION: it worked in the previous version

DESCRIPTION:

Sharing a link from Firefox browser (android) with the Sharing symbol to a messenger (Threema or Signal) does not open the app with the link in the textfield as it worked before in 4.5. Firefox closes after choosing signal as link destination and the signal app does not open up. Firefox app gets blacked out in the homescreen. Opening it up by taping on the black tile does not complete the sharing task. also opening up the Signal app does not comlete the task.

PRECONDITIONS:

no preconditions needed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. open up a website in the firefox browser (android app) Version 127.0
  2. tap on the menu (three dots)
  3. tap on share
  4. choose the android app you want to share the link with (works fine with sailfish apps)
  5. chosen android app does not open with the link in the textfield. Firefox minimises as black tile on the homescreen.

EXPECTED RESULT:

chared link should be copied into the textfield of the chosen app.

ACTUAL RESULT:

chosen app gets opened if it is not active in the background, but the link is not included in the textfield. i tried it with messenger apps an with here we go app or with DS Note app. all with the same result. nothing happens. the link does not get shared.

MODIFICATIONS:

no custimizations active.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

i can provide screenshots if necessary.

sharing links from other android apps like News apps (Focus online for example) also do not work.

I’ve got the same issues on my installation.
Currently I’m resorting to copy/pasting things when needed!

Works for me from Firefox to WhatsApp, Signal, ProtonMail and Element.
This is an Xperia 10 III running the upcoming 4.6.0 release (the one following 4.6.0.13).

I just tried to share a link from firefox to whatsapp and it worked fine. im on Xperia 10 Plus with Sailfish 4.6.0.13

Most of the times it works. For example I cannot copy from Asana app to slack, cannot copy the link so slack could see it. I need to first share to messenger, share to myself, then from messenger I can copy to slack.

It seems, that some process in the background gets stuck after a while and then its not working. I tried it again some days ago after a restart and it worked. Later that day after using different apps (native an andriod) it stopped working again.

what do you mean with “the one following 4.6.0.13”? has there been a newer update? 13 ist the latest one… or is there one in the pipeline befor 5.0?

He is using internal test build which will be released as 4.6.x when it is finalised. If I have understood correctly, only Jolla C2 will get the 5.0 right away, while rest of the supported devices have to wait a bit longer with 4.6 versions before getting the 5.0 update.

No, not yet, it is “upcoming” or “work in progress”. There will be at least one more 4.6.0 update.
