I can’t flash this device every time an update is there. This is the only device I use.
Then maybe EA is not exactly for you.
You can have that opinion. ![]()
My issue however does have nothing to do with Sailfish OS EA status.
Just suggesting.
I have no authority in that field but, intuitively, I’d say that reflashing is the shortest way to solve this SIM bug. Tracking it can take much more time and energy as it seems strange and deep to me.
But yes, I can be wrong, just a feeling, …
There is really no way an issue like this can appear from all upgrades.
Maybe, possibly, some certain version pair - but not all.
Sure, reflashing is a bit of a crapshot, but it has merit staring over fresh.
And have you even tried taking and providing logs with ofono logger?
Not all upgrades. My issue was introduced going from 4.5.x to 4.6.11. Prior there was no issue.
I just installed Ofono. When I got back to the main menu (with SIM inserted and no connection to the network) Ofono could not connect and no logs were created. ![]()
I then spent several boot cycles to get back in a working state.
Exactly. But that would mean 4.6+ broke it, not that any upgrade in general breaks it, no?
There is a nonzero chance a reflash fixes it if something got corrupted or too much cruft had been accumulated.
Assuming a reflash to 4.6 fixes it, it seems extremely strange that an upgrade to 5.0 (which touches different things) would re-break it - but that’s basically what you are saying. This does not make sense, something else/more must be at play.
What exactly? It is Ofono Logger you are after.
Looks like it might have stopped development pre-SailJail, might need to disable it - or start from terminal for a one-off.
I followed the instructions from Jolla.
oFono is the SailfishOS component communicating with the cellular modem of the phone. oFono provides the SailfishOS applications with the cellular services.
I don’t get the cellular services, so logging appears not to work.
I found this thread highlighting the same problem. Today I updated my XA2 to the latest version (1MB update) and now I don’t get any connection with the cell network at all. No matter how many times I reboot or let it wait. I pulled out the sim-card and then it gets to main screen. In the linked thread there is mentioning of an internal bug being tracked. @jolla Can you check the status of that issue?
How can you tell? What did you do?
Did you tried anything from the topic you linked?
Did you tried to insert SIM after SFOS start?
Any difference if you enable SIM PIN?
What if you start the phone with disabled SIM and enabled it later?
How can you tell? What did you do?
When I insert the sim-card nothing is happening, the device seems not to be detecting the card. I connected to the phone using SSH and tried to restart the ofono.service, but that does not make a difference.
Did you tried anything from the topic you linked?
I did try everything that is mentioned in that topic. I have started the phone with and without the sim-card inserted. When the card is inserted I don’t get to the home screen. When I don’t have the sim-card inserted I get to the home screen no problem (as reported before).
Did you tried to insert SIM after SFOS start?
Yes and that does not make a difference. I only see the rectangle in the top-right corner indicating it is not present.
Any difference if you enable SIM PIN?
What if you start the phone with disabled SIM and enabled it later?
I can’t set a sim pin at the moment as the device is not seeing the sim. I’ll try that once home with a different phone to set it.
Great.
Did you try this?
How do I disable the sim? Any interaction through the GUI related to SIM is showing “No SIM inserted”
Just enable the nonexisting one and then disable your SIM. Try combinations and report.
I have set a PIN code and now it booted as expected (twice in a row even). Fingers crossed this solves it, though bit inconvenient with 3 pins to get in.
