REPRODUCIBILITY: 100%
OS VERSION:5.0.0.71
HARDWARE: Xperia 10 III Dual
UI LANGUAGE:Norwegian
REGRESSION:Yes
DESCRIPTION:
OneCall network invisible after OneCall removed old network support. With OneCall SIM only Telenor network (Norway) is visible. With Telia or any other SIM, all networks (except OneCall) are visible, and works with 5G/4G. Been in touch with OneCall all the time, nothing works. Updated from previous release to 5.0.0.71, no change. The only clue is that OneCall apparently needs VoLTE, the others don’t.
PRECONDITIONS:
None
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
SIM card (I even got a new one, just in case) from OneCall (Norway), start phone.
OneCall SIM card
Start phone
EXPECTED RESULT:
Connect to OneCall network
ACTUAL RESULT:
Network cannot be registered (no OneCall network visible when searching)
MODIFICATIONS:
None. Used the last-to-latest as well as the lastest Sailfish. Non-free version.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The only possible clue is that OneCall apparently requires VoLTE, according to support.
For what it’s worth - I tried changing the file on the phone itself, as indicated in the earlier post (changing mnc to 05 - note that there are other OneCall entries in the same file which have 05 already).
However, it made no difference. I do not know if that’s sufficient to actually update the workings of the phone, in any case nothing changed. I changed the file back again after testing this, so now it’s back to its non-modified setting.
I’m not sure if this information is processed/converted in any way. But the presence of the file on the phone suggests it is not. However; it seems likely it would take a restart to re-read the file. (Either of the phone or the relevant service).
And when you do a manual network search; you don’t see any unnamed (only mcc-mnc) ones?
What does this mean? 2G and 3G? Unless that was all you used - it should not have had any direct impact.
I did restart the phone (restart though, not power-cycled).
When I do a manual search I see only Telenor.01 and nothing else. It’s possible that this network is (available as) a 2G network - I believe Telenor doesn’t have 3G here anymore, that’s why I had to give up my Nokia N900, I had Telenor at the time and the phone stopped working at the same time Telenor said they would remove 3G. They recently announced that they would remove 2G but it’s possible that it still remains.
When doing the search for the Telia card (the other SIM card I use in the Xperia) I see the Telenor.01 network and also Telia and Ice.
The 29th OneCall support told med that they removed 2G at the 21th, the day my phone stopped working. I believe 3G isn’t available either, because I have another OneCall SIM which I use in an old Android Samsung Galaxy J3 (or something like that), and the card doesn’t connect if it’s in 3G/2G mode, but it does connect if set to 4G/3G/2G. That phone is also dual-SIM but can only use 4G for one of the cards at the time. So it looks like 4G and possibly 5G are the only OneCall networks (where I live, anyway).
In my Xperia I have as mentioned two cards. One is OneCall, which I only use for calls and messages. The other Telia card I use for data. I’ve never used data on that OneCall card.
However, until July 2024 I had only the OneCall SIM (though I did not use data), but I can’t recall seeing “2G” in the display (though it’s still possible and I overlooked it). With the two cards I see 4G but that would be the Telia card maybe.. it only shows this for one of the cards I believe. Again, I’m not always looking carefully at the display when it Just Works. (My old physical Jolla phone did show 4G with the same physical card, before I moved it to the Xperia in March 2024 when the Jolla phone finally failed. I bought the Xperia pre-installed with Sailfish and just moved over the card).
