Old samsung galaxy XCover 3 had both (water resistant AND replaceable battery). And it was not particularly expensive, quite the opposite in fact. Of course you had to use it wisely, with the cover well in place.
agreed, this is something i regret, and something i hope they will improve on in the next phone.
I know it’s not going to work in your beach shorts, but I can highly recommend the Fidlock cases - I have just got a cycle case (size L) ready for the Jolla - it has fuss-free opening and closing, the touchscreen works ok (you have to tap a little harder) and you can take photos and voice calls without removing the phone… The cycle case also has one of their superb VACUUM mounts on the back for fuss-free mounting.
